Brighton VegFest (Sunday)

Brighton VegFest is always a great day out (or two). Last year, I didn't stay over but just went down both days. I'll probably do the same again this year - hence two events.

This is for Sunday. (Saturday is here: http://meetu.ps/vb0l0)

Our friends from The Vegetarian Meetup Group are going too, so I suspect we'll try to coordinate. Their event for the Sunday is here:
http://meetu.ps/tkwMx

So, time to firm up plans...

Plan A: Victoria (best if you already have a ticket)

9:30 to 9:45 Meet at London, Victoria near the bottom of the escalators that lead up to Victoria Place (by platform 13).

9:45-ish See how many vegans we can squeeze into one carriage. (The plan is to board the train relatively early so we're not just dotted around the train - and can even save space for latecomers.)

10:06 Train leaves Victoria.

11:03 11:07 Train arrives in Brighton, and we head for the Hove Centre. It's about a 40 minute walk via the scenic route (along the front) or about 15 minutes by bus or train. (We normally walk.)

"Turn up and go" tickets for the Victoria train are £25.20! So, if you don't already have a ticket, I recommend the Blackfriars option (£10) below instead.

Plan B: Blackfriars (best if you DON'T already have a ticket)

9:00 to 9:15 Meet at London, Blackfriars (and buy tickets!) I don't know the station, so let's say we'll meet at the entrance to platform 1.

9:15-ish See how many vegans we can squeeze into one carriage. (The plan is to board the train relatively early so we're not just dotted around the train - and can even save space for latecomers.)

9:34 Train leaves Blackfriars.

11:05 Train arrives in Brighton, and we wait two minutes for those on the Victoria train...

Great event. I only managed to speak to a few people and saw a few of you as I rushed around the stalls in between the cooking demonstration workshops.

Thank you for stopping by Shambhu's on Saturday. We managed to see and speak to a few people over the weekend. It was really nice to see you all.

It was a good event. Decided to go again on Sunday as I got there a bit late on Saturday (partly due to transport problems) and the Sunday programme looked good. Enjoyed some good music, an interesting talk, met some nice people, had a great walk on the ocean front (apart from waiting for Jessica in the rain as she inspected all the pebbles. Only joking, Jessica ;-) and topped off with a drink at the Cowley and pleasant train ride home. Thanks be to Robb for organising.

My 2nd time at the Brighton Vegfest - was a great time as ever, met/listened to great people and had a great/fun time.

Great to see so many people at VegFest. Just sorry I didn't manage to speak to everyone! But whether you made it there over the weekend or not, don't forget that VegFest is coming to London this October! And while the increased costs of putting on a show in the capital mean that there is an admission fee for London, you can currently get two tickets for the price of one... http://www.theticketsellers.co....

This event was amazing. The Festival was better than I had ever hoped it would be, it was informative, entertaining and just a great day out. Dispite torential rain, we had a very pleasent walk to the venue (via the sea side) and had lovelly conversations with the other meet up members. I really want to go on both days next year.

Save us a carriage, Victoria! ;-)
We'll just be looking for one with enough empty seats...

Yeah I will go from Blackfriars.

£25 from Victoria? You said NR is now showing it as a £10 ADVANCE fare, I'm confused.

      March 16, 2013

  • Katriona M.

How come it's cheaper by going from Blackfriars? Is is definitely?
And who's going from there tomorrow?

    Hi
Are you meeting up when you get there at some point? I won't be able to get there until later. Thanks

    March 16, 2013

  • Katriona M.

If I don't meet up at the station, I'll see you down there.

    March 16, 2013

  • Richard Ⓥ M.

Hove station is closer, my rail ticket cost the same price whether I went to Brighton or Hove, so worth checking if you missed out on Advance tickets.

I will be down there but will be working on the Fry's Vegetarian stall for an hour or two. Please come and say hello to me!

Hi, we can't get down there until 4pm on the Sunday. Would anybody with past experience of visiting this event be able to tell me if its worth going by this time?? I'm worried we'll get down there and things will be shutting down. Xx

    March 13, 2013

    • dori

There will be few stalls shutting down early, but last year there were some crazy bargains in the last few hours! (e.g. everything for £1 from Redwood)

      Thanks Dori. :)

I'll be there both days and am staying in a hostel Fri and Sat nights. If others are too, we should check out some of Brighton's other vegan sights around the festival. Brunch? Dinner? Veggie pub? Vegetarian shoes? I'm up for it all, email me via my Meetup profile if you want to join me!

Ahh what a shame i've booked my tickets to go on the Saturday! Oh well I'll see if I can give you guys a heads up to some good stalls to look out for!

  • Victoria

Hi, I'll be happy to meet you all on Sunday and walking the scenic route sounds a fantastic idea. However can I meet you at the station in Brighton? I have a train from St Albans to Brighton which is much easier for me to catch than travelling into London first and my train should arrive at 11.05, so you won't have to wait for me long. Let me know where we can meet at the Brighton Station :-)

We've previously gone from London Bridge, but it seems that those trains aren't running this year! Therefore I'm tentatively suggesting the following train...

    10:06 Victoria - 11:03 Brighton

Not sure if doing the Sat, Sun or both yet - but will be there.
