London Vegan Drinks

London vegans and their friends take socialising to the next level on the third Thursday of every month. Join us for a night of drinking, networking and getting to know each other in a fabulous central London setting.

This event is always amazing with 100+ people in attendance. Let's do it again this month!

Where is Vegan Drinks? London Vegan Drinks takes place upstairs at The Big Chill House located less than a three minute walk from King's Cross Station. Originating in New York City, Vegan Drinks has now become a global event.

What is Vegan Drinks? London Vegan Drinks is a monthly bar night for vegans and vegan-friendly people. The bar is stocked with vegan beer, vegan wine, vegan cocktails, vegan cider and more! All you need to do is show up on the night, buy some drinks and hang out. Simple.

How much does it cost? Entry to London Vegan Drinks is free. You just pay for the drinks you want to consume and the food you want to eat. Shambhu's, a dedicated vegan catering company, will be selling delicious plant-based bar snacks such as pizza slices, bean burritos, salads and more!

Follow Shambhu's on Twitter and Facebook for more information.

What is the point? London Vegan Drinks is an opportunity for vegans, friends and the curious to meet, drink, relax and socialise. It is a perfect place to make new friends, connect for business or just get out of the house for a night.

Wanna come along? Please RSVP below in the comments. Spread news of London Vegan Drinks far and wide. Please post details on forums, blogs, Twitter, Facebook and wherever else interested and interesting people converge. Bring friends, family and co-workers. All are welcome.

You can also RSVP and invite friends via the Facebook event.

Not convinced? How about this?

London vegans are already familiar with Vx, the capital's very own 100% vegan boutique and grocery store. To celebrate London Vegan Drinks moving into the King's Cross neighbourhood, Vx will be staying open until 7:30pm on the third Thursday of every month. If you shop in Vx on these days and mention London Vegan Drinks, you will receive a 10% discount off your purchases. This offer only applies to the days when London Vegan Drinks is occurring.

Vx will be selling toasties (ciabatta with Vegourmet cheese and chorizo or Wheaty slices) for £2.50 and a wide range of Laura's Idea sandwiches and wraps as well as Forrest Foods rolls wraps for around £2.50-£2.99.

Follow Vx on Twitter or Facebook for more information.

i am definitely up for another vegan drinks, even one a week would be good, and the numbers would probably work out better too, i.e. more chance to speak to everybody, maybe. i have spoken to numerous people about this, who all seemed to be up for it too. but we didn't think it was fair to lay it all at Sean's door, he does enough already. so lets get it together guys and gals. x

Why not just do another regular 'drinks' at Tibits, perhaps a couple of weeks after each of fatgayvegan's monthly drinks? Unless there are reasons I do not know for not going back there (have you all been banned?). Some people probably prefer to go to a veggie/vegan venue rather than a 'non-veg' place. I think Tibits is a pleasant venue, although the food could be better and the prices much cheaper! Having said that, I do like the idea of what fatgayvegan is doing with the main monthly drinks at the moment (even though I still haven't yet managed to attend! Shocking!).

There is going to be a documentary producer at LVD this week. He is making a documentary for Channel 4 about being single in London and going on first dates. He wants to come along and chat with people who are potentially interested in being in the documentary. There will not be any cameras or anything like that. The film maker is coming along as a regular attendee but is going to take the opportunity to chat and hand out his business card if anyone is interested.

Here's my '2 pence' worth; I am a proud, eccentric, passionate Vegan! Sod the cliches, ignore the critics & idiots who think we're weak or odd or whatever! The amount of lovely, healthy people I've met utterly contradicts this & goes to prove you can't judge a book by its cover!! It's sad when some people I've spoken to feel either bored or frustrated at explaining themselves, or not wishing to talk about their veganism-- I think Josh put it very well in Sean's Google Hangout; people asking why we're vegan should get the question re-jigged & thrown back at them ''Why are you not vegan?'' Yes... it makes sense to us vegan bubble residents... so... the idea is to pose a question, show people there is another way.. but not living up to the stereotypes by coming across as agressive/militant...rather, articulate, calm & gently suggesting... 'why not..?'' :) All the best, Jess :) x

So did they turn up? Did anyone find out what they actually wanted? Did they find their freaks? After all there were a lot of vegans to choose from. (Calm down dears, I'm only joking!)

      1 · March 26, 2013

Do we really have to wait a month until we can do it all again?

Loved the house party vibe of the venue. But can't wait until we can expand onto the terrace too.

However, I'm really surprised to hear people complain about the cost of the food! I ate my fill for much less than I'd have spent at Tibits. And personally, I can't think of another 100% vegan caterer who'd be prepared to bring in all their own equipment and then sell hot food for as little as 80p!

    2 · March 24, 2013

For the record I haven’t said anything about a summer fete. I never even attended any such event.

      March 26, 2013

    • Sun

If people don't like something that's vegan then they should be free to say. Others may disagree with their opinion but hey, that's what makes things interesting and should hopefully improve things for the better. Surely thinking or just accepting that everything in the vegan world is 'wonderful' is somewhat delusional/dishonest (freakish? weird?). Just try not to kill free speech otherwise you'll probably end up killing veganism.

A question for everyone. Do you think we still need the name labels for this event?

    1 · March 22, 2013

    • Jaysee C.

London Vega drinks is the meetup that allows you to solve the embarrassing problem of not remembering the name of someone whom you have talk to many times in other meetups, without having to ask. This is possible because of two reasons: 1) the chances are that person will be in this meetup, and 2) name tags. So, for me, the name tags are both idiosyncratic of this event, and a great service for the whole of the London Vegans Meetup phenomenon.

Great meetup on Thursday. It brought a lot of new faces to the event which was good and was glad to see the regulars. My only disappointment was the value and choice of food. 1/4 Pizza slice @ £2.00 was too much. I don't think they should get a monopoly. Sean, can people suggest alternative companies?

    1 · March 24, 2013

    • Ponder

Ditto your comments about the food David. See my remarks below. I didn't even get a quarter slice of pizza. In fairness to Shambhu's when I went to have a bit of a moan about it later they did give me a free samosa. Dunno why they were called tofu or sausage pizzas as the amount of either topping was miniscule.
I'd recommend the falafel from the Grill House across the road. I went there on the way home as I was still pretty hungry. Hope you had fun at the Orion 15 yesterday David.

      March 24, 2013

    • Lesley D.

I was a bit more shocked at £5.10 for a pear cider than the price of food.

      March 24, 2013

  • Julia

Location is great for me as I live locally. I had a snack before I came out then had a bean burrito with vegan coleslaw it was lovely and I thought good value - a very well organised event I thought, thanks Sean

    1 · March 24, 2013

  • Chicci C.

Awesome, another amazing job Sean! I think this will just get better. I think the food is tricky in a venue like that so a big well done to Shambus for amazing food. I took someone who is not vegan and he was extremely impressed! Bring on the disco sounds!

Great Meetup last night, I liked the private party feel which made my first Drinks less daunting! Next time I will have to book a hotel so I don't have to dash off into the night to catch a train and leave the Vegan Drunks!!

    • Lucy

Next time I’m going to book a train so I have to leave before being tempted by a 4th bowl of rose! Just doing my bit to demonstrate the value of the vegan pound to London’s bars. Ahem. Great night and loved the venue.

I thought it was amazing. Great venue. Going to take all the the tables out next time so it is just seating around the outside and will sort out a cloakroom. So much fun!

    11 · March 22, 2013

    • Binni

I had a tremendous time at my first vegan drinks! I think a cloakroom is a great idea, it'd make it much easier to mingle if I'm not fretting about where I've left my coat...
I agree about the music levels, just because loud music makes my ears hurt but if I wear my earplugs, I can't talk to anyone!

good night in our new home, i did hear a couple of people saying that they thought the drinks were a little expensive though. doesn't bother me as soft drinks were cheaper. lol.

    1 · March 22, 2013

    • Ponder

As I mentioned to a few people, I thought the food could of been better value for what it was.

I don't like to be critical of vegan companies and I know they're just like any other business at the end of the day with people having to make a living and all that. That said, the samosas were very small for 80p, I got two tiny strips of tofu on my pizza so the topping was next to non-existant. The burritos were very nice but not really filled that deep so not that substantial. Also the cheesecakes were only very slightly cheaper than what it costs to buy them in the shops, and I was surprised at that as you were buying direct from the manufacturer ; )

      March 22, 2013

  • Luigi C.

Thanks for organising. If I may give my feedback, I still prefer Tibits. Venue far too noisy for me.

I'd like to make contact with an Israeli lady I met last night called Daphne (maybe spelt wrongly). If you're reading this, or know her, please get in contact. I can't find her on the list of people who attended. I didnt stay very long last night because truth be told, I found it a bit too overwhelming and crowded. Personally, I preferred Tibits.

Lovely as ever :) And when the sun (eventually) shines (!!) hanging out on that terrace will be lovely! When I first arrived, I got this sense of a private party, which is great, certainly maintaining & adding to the vibe so well established at Tibits :) & we have our own wee bar!! No delicately going up & down the stairs, praying we don't spill our pints, etc!! Now....some of just have to get proper drunk & have a dance on the wee dancefloor!! :) Haha!! Anyway.... all the best... & see you in Brixton Sean!! Sober to begin with then get as pickled as you like in the pub! :) All the best, Jess :) x

We have passed 100 RSVPs for this month! It will be a great way to usher in our new pub atmosphere and Shambhu's are making a whole range of lovely bar snack items to keep us well fed. Don't forget to go into Vx and quote 'London Vegan Drinks' to get 10% off. They are staying open until 7:30pm just for us.

Our event is taking place upstairs. When you enter the pub off the street, you will see a door/stairway to the left. Take that up one flight.

There will be vegan beer (Heineken) on tap as well as several bottled beers. They have both Westons and Aspall bottled ciders. For wine drinkers they have a merlot and a rosé that are both vegan. The drinks that are vegan will be listed on a separate menu just for us.

This is going to be a fun night!

Can you help distribute flyers for the Vegan Pledge?

The Vegan Pledge is an event where members of the public go vegan for a month. And, in the past, many of the participants have stayed vegan once the Pledge has finished.

To help make this year's event a success, can you display or distribute flyers at your college, university or workplace? Or at local libraries, community centres, wholefood shops, or restaurants? Or anywhere else?

If you would like to help, but don't know where, we can supply you with a list of places which have displayed flyers in the past.

Either way, please see me or Cathy at Vegan Drinks. We'll be bringing lots...

For more information on this year's Vegan Pledge, and a report on last year's, please visit http://www.vegancampaigns.org.u...
