London Vegan Potluck

London Vegan Potluck is back for another monthly night.

The potluck takes place on the first Wednesday of every month. The potluck is in our snappy location in Central London just off High Holborn and we are getting upwards of 100 attendees each month.

How does it work? What is a potluck? A potluck is an event where like-minded people get together to share homemade food, swap recipes, make friends and talk about topics that interest them. What is a vegan potluck? It is the same as a potluck but with vegan food! There is no dairy, meat, honey or eggs. The food can be sweet or savoury and our event requires potluckers to provide an ingredients list with their dish as well as utensils to serve it with if required.

A donation of £1 is asked of every attendee to help cover costs.

Come along for a fabulous night of meeting without meat. If you have friends you would like to invite who are not on Meetup, RSVPs are also accepted via the Facebook event page http://www.facebook.com/events/128108237379408/ and the Fat Gay Vegan website http://fatgayvegan.com/ldnveganpotluck/

Just a somewhat funny aside but actually a real problem... is there any way I can make it clearer to people that this is a vegan potluck, not vegetarian? Ha! Last night was the third month in a row where someone showed up with non-vegan food. Of course I understand some people are getting to grips with veganism and don't understand some ingredients, but last night an attendee put dairy yoghurt on the table and when quizzed said they thought it was a vegetarian potluck. So let's have some fun here... give me a new name for the event that makes it crystal clear that the potluck is vegan. Obviously London Vegan Potluck isn't good enough ;).

Keep up the good work Sean! The vegan community loves you.

Hhhhmmm, taking Ben's use of the term 'hardline', I was thinking 'EXTREME VEGETARIAN POTLUCK' but this may cause even more confusion! So... a few ideas off top of my head *some derivative, but that' s half the fun!* Moo Free Feast; Eggless/Milkless/Honeyless/Butterless VEGAN Potluck! >> Or airline security style; do they have 'non-Vegan' Detectors? > Anyway.... anyway..... can't think of anything else... Bye for now! :) x

A quieter night but still with 63 people. I think it was a bit nicer like that... the 100+ can be a bit hectic.

I have to say I am really confused as to why some people refuse to pay the £1 I ask. Out of 63 people, only 46 paid.

Jessica i did find these comments of yours quite funny 'To make light of this; here's something some may/may not find funny; all this time, I've been reading this debate/tiff, reading 'L.Galvin' , thinking a man was writing! Haha! & it's just made me smile or go 'Doh!' like Homer Simpson--must've been the Galvin bit, sounds like male sort of name' you must of been thinking i'm not sure i know L.Galvin

Wow, wow what a great conversation that is going on, it's great to see people expressing themselves and all only for a pound Wow wow. Entertaining

Hi Storm I just wanted to say that i respect your viewpoint and of course i don't know how well you know Robb but if you are judging him solely on this conversation with me and that alone then i personally think it's very harsh to say he is not a nice person.I have always found him to be quite pleasant .I do think he has the right to express how he feels and i believe that was all he was trying to do.I'm not trying to tell you what you should think not at all but i just saw it as a frank exchange of views .

      2 · May 4

    • L.Galvin

I think it would be a shame if your opinion of him was formed and indeed shaped by this particularly exchange as that would be in isolation and in my opinion not an accurate relection of the whole person ( having read it back i personally wouldn't conclude that he was not a very nice person from the comments that he made) but once again that is just my view and if you have a different one then of course that's perfectly fine .I did think twice about replying but i was surprised and indeed saddened to read the latter part of your comment.

Josh... I feel your pain and sadly, like you no doubt, I have come to the rather melancholy conclusion that voracious vegans are not to be trifled with.

    • Jessica Stella Fox

Yes.... I wasn't that late & the 'crowd' had scoffed most of the savoury dishes! I better be more with it next time & get there for 6ish rather than 6.30ish!! :)

It was a really nice event as always, but there was a definite shortage of savoury foods this time. In fact. the food seemed to run out quicker than usual. Seems some people still relying on bringing drinks rather than food! I know some people don't have culinary capabilities, and some are coming straight from work and haven't been able to cook/prepare anything. Perhaps in future those people who can't make food could instead buy vegan food products from such places as M&S (http://health.marksandspencer.c... ) eg stuffed vine leaves, salads, olives, hummous, salsa, spring rolls).

I paid! (Right after Mr FGV's first speech). Would this help my credit rating for getting a mortgage on a house in Primrose Hill? There's one for sale in Chalcot Square (where Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin and Joan Bakewell live) for just £4.25million.

Tried to make vegan banana bread but it didn't turn out so well so I'm resorting to buying a fruit salad from m&s! Going to bring a veggie friend and introduce her to this meetup group!

So let's be welcoming. We all forget to say thank you sometimes :).

Do people not read the descriptions of things they RSVP to? I suppose they must get over excited at the title alone & just hit 'yes', 'yes', YES! :) x

    hope to bring some cake..

Speaking of the pub, I assume everyone's happy with the Cittie of Yorke afterwards? With a bit of luck, the cellar bar will be half-empty again. (Or should that be half-full?)
