On the first Saturday of the month......
The Brixton Vegan Walkabout!!
(Featuring; The Vegan Tart, Saba's Vegan option, Ms Cupcake, drinks at The Dog Star & any other delights; suggestions welcome!)
Come rain, shine, (or snow!) come to Brixton & explore!
We meet at;
Brixton Tube Station at 12:30pm
Buses that stop near by>>
45, 59, 109, 118, 133, 159, 250, 333
It's an all dayer & doesn't end until I've said bye to the last person (or more) at the tube station or bus stop!!
This is the usual pattern/timings of the day!
12:30-12:45pm - We wait for people to turn up at the tube
12:45-2:00pm(ish) - At Brixton Station Road Market
2:00pm(ish)-3pm(ish) - We wonder along to Ms Cupcake...
From 3pm-(ish) - As the weather is so lovely, I now suggest a short relaxing walk to Brockwell Park; there's a lovely walled garden & nearby, a hilly grassy area to sit & relax at--bring a blanket, as the grass will be damp after all this recent rain. Last time, it was bliss chilling out on the hill so bring snacks--we could be here into the evening & have a picnic dinner! :)
But if you fancy a pub in the early afternoon/evening....
6pmish-late - A short walk the other side of Brockwell Park, brings us to The Railway Tavern, Tulse Hill; it has a huge beer Garden & is well worth checking out...
OR 3ish till late - If you don't fancy the park, back down Coldharbor Lane, enjoy a drink, or more, at The Dog Star or... The Prince Albert! :)
NEW LAST MINUTE THING >>
Vegans Invade Intrepid Fox!
I'll be leaving Brockwell Park at 5.30, to give us enough time to go by bus back North of the river; I prefer the bus, but if you want to meet us later, tube it by all means!
And here are details of Brixton's Vegan delights.......
The Vegan Tart *BRIXTON BAKE OFF-BEST In Show & BEST Savoury 2013!!*
From Chocolate Tarts, to Lime & Thyme, from Homity Pies to Cookies or Scones, enjoy something yummy indeed inspired by the 1950's, with a dash of Twin Peaks indeed!

Dumisani & Andy, the 'tarts' :)
Saba's Ethiopian Stall
Enjoy the great vegan option*, of injera (pancake made with self raising flower) or rice, with lentils, mixed veg & salad!
((*non-vegan option cooked totally separately))
A fine example of what to expect....... :)
(Photo I took of my plate in October 2012)
With plenty of naughty cupcakes to choose from, (including lots of chocolate ganaches, with mint, coffee, hazelnut, strawberry & other flavours indeed), plus a fridge full of Vegan Ice Cream, Rice Puddings, plus savoury pastries & new Vegan sandwiches, there's lots to tempt you at Ms Cupcakes Brixton base!
Ms Cupcake (AKA 'Melissa') with a very naughty tray of her creations!
Other Brixton Vegan delights....* checked/recommended-there may well be more to discover...but this is a pretty extensive list! :) *
>See Trina's Delicacies, (Vegetarian & Vegan), for her Vegan brownies & cupcakes; she often has free samples to try too...well worth a try :) . I've had 2 cupcakes; nice delicate, fluffy, yum! ((Located near Saba's/Vegan Tart))
>Check out Taza falafal *to the right, by the Recreation Centre Staircase*; yummy, fresh, well worth getting the large one!
>The Oracle's Organic Juice Bar; lovely salads & fresh juices in Brixton Village, 6th Avenue; see Sean's article here..... :)

>Franca Manca; ((4, Market Row, covered market)) I've heard people rate the vegan option here- I've heard there's one vegan pizza option, then you can add toppings; little bit pricey *about £1.50 per extra topping* but a friend said she just had the plain Margareita *minus cheese indeed* with just Artichokes added, that works out a good deal & sounds nice indeed!
Franco Manca - Brixton
>L'Express; (Market Row; a short walk from Ms Cupcake!) the 'greasy spoon' Express Cafe, that is 'taken over' on certain evenings, becoming a French Vegetarian & Vegan Restaurant.... nice people, yummy vegan options, well worth a look!
L'Express Cafe - London, United Kingdom - Vegetarian & Vegan ...
And Local shopping;
Holland & Barratt (Brixton Road)
Brixton Wholefoods (Atlantic Road)
Seating options >>
there is some seating that may be available in the market, there is also a seating area upstairs outside the Recreation Centre, to the left; at Ms Cupcake, there is some out door seating available; also option of drinks, at the next door cafe!
After enjoying some Vegan delights, then.....
The Dog Star!
....it's off to pub around 2.30 or 3ish (it may be earlier if the weather is a bit much! Haha!!) for drinks & good conversation!! :)
OR *weather permitting!*
At 3ish, if you fancy a trip to Brockwell Park, I'll head off with a little group for a couple of hours *say till about 5ish; could vary!* & meet whoever's still in the pub later on! I rather like the Walled Garden :)
(Brockwell Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia>> At the end of Coldharbor Lane, with the main part of Brixton Road to your right, turn left passing by the Ritzy Cinema, & go up the main road, which is where Brixton Road becomes Effra Road; there are buses but it's not a long walk, roughly 10/15 minutes. Keep your eyes peeled at the road names to your left; when you see a street called Brixton Water Lane, turn left & after a short walk, the park entrance is on your right)
So, latecomers, get yourselves down Brixton Station Road; if you don't see a group of vegans queuing by Saba or loitering at The Vegan Tart stand---
1) Look around the market for a seated area or generally explore the area! You are very likely to bump into someone you know!
2) Pop up those stairs to the Recreation Centre & look to your left
3) Pop by Ms Cupcake...
4) Gone 3pm? Just get down to The Dog Star!! OR head up to Brockwell Park! :)
So, after the success of past trips, I look forward to more trips!!
All the best, Bye for now, Jess :)
