Buddhafield Festival

Central Long Field

Buddhafield is a summer camping music festival like no other.

It's one of the best kept secrets of the festival scene - Essential Travel call it one of the top ten unique festivals of 2013.

It's entirely vegetarian. The main cafe tents are vegan. There's a "Vegan Vihara" tent.

Of course, there's music. Folk. Ska. Opera. Balkan/gypsy, Lots of DJs. And, as it's a fundraiser for a Buddhist order, there's also lots of Buddhist stuff. It's not a retreat and it's not a 24 hour party. But it has just a little bit of both.

Buddhafield is also drug and alcohol free. (If this puts you off, remember that this festival will be the week after the vegan beer festival. At that point, your body might welcome a break.)

So let's go!

I've set the dates for when Buddhafield opens and closes: we can come later and/or leave earlier. It would be really good to camp together.

Jane Easton ([masked]) is running the aforementioned "Vegan Vihara"; a tent housing a vegan information space. She would welcome help running it; so do say in comments if you would like to help.

[Update Jul 16] We're officially joining/camping with the Vegan Vihara. So if you want to camp with us, find the Vihara in the social change space.

Adult tickets are £117; or there are plenty of volunteer spots left.

(This is probably the longest ever London Vegan meetup event, and a bit different in that we'll all obviously be going off and doing our own thing quite a bit. If you come with us, please eat vegan as you would at any other LV event in a veggie venue; if you're not vegan it's a great place to practice eating lots of tasty vegan cake, pancakes, and other food for a few days.)

To help you find us: Vegan Vihara is a white dome next to a bright pink square tent; our tents have roses and flags hanging between them.

    Hi All
Unfortunately I have a problem with work to sort out now this week. I will definitely come to Buddhafield but I may not be able to come on Wednesday, but Thursday or Friday instead. Will it be easy to find everyone if I come to the Vegan Vihara?

    Thanks
    Rich

    July 16, 2013

    • Ian M.

Yes. I'll set something up, even if it's just a notebook in the Vegan Vihara where we leave messages for each other about rendezvous points.

      July 16, 2013

  • Simon

How will we all find each other?

    July 16, 2013

    • Ian M.

If you're joining the Vegan Vihara, our tents will be next door to each other, so it won't be a problem. So as to include everyone else, we'll meet at the Vegan Vihara at 5pm on Wednesday.

      July 16, 2013

  • Ian M.

Let's get together at the Vegan Vihara at the Social Change area at 5pm on Wednesday. Then we can sort out a way of keeping in touch, and then go to the opening ritual together.

Once there, we'll sort out a daily point where we can touch base if we like - probably in tandem with the Vihara.

    Look forward to seeing everyone!

  • Ian M.

Yes. Glad to hear you're all coming! For a moment, I thought it would just be Richard and I!

The London Vegan Meetup posse are going to camp with the Vegan Vihara in the Social Change area. (Because the social change area isn't a regular campsite, this carries with it an assumption that we'll help out with the Vegan Vihara now and again, which I think is an added bonus. The Vihara is a tent full of vegan info and cups of tea, a friendly space for vegan outreach in the festival. It's run by Jane Easton.)

I'm teaching yoga at the yoga tent every day at 12.30 - 1.30 so if I don't find you all first, maybe you'd like to say hi after class. I look forward to seeing you all in a field in the sun soon x

Hey guys, I'm really looking forward to this! I'll be travelling on the train from Lancaster..still have to book my ticket and choose times. What time are people arriving on the Wednesday? I arrived in the UK about 4weeks ago from Oz so it'd be great to connect up with some of you there! :)

if anyone is driving back from the festival on Monday to London, I would be delighted to car share.. (I'm not a driver!)
Or get the train back with the Groupsave?

    July 12, 2013

  • Gemma S.

I'm already going to this,& would love to meet up with some of you while there, I've just become a vegan, and have yet been able to attend a meet up, so would be a perfect time to introduce myself, & carry the friendship post-buddhafield!

Hi Ian. I will be coming from Oxford yes. A shame, it would have been good to get the train with other in London. See you there!

      July 5, 2013

    • Richard

I have just emailed Jane about volunteering :). Thanks

      July 5, 2013

  • Ian M.

Am going on the 12:18 from Paddington. Will be at B30 if you'd like to join me (or might join a friend at D60, depending on where we can get seats together).

    July 5, 2013

  • Symantha

    Would like to volunteer

    May 12, 2013

    • Ian M.

      Great :)

Just to check, do you mean you'd like to volunteer with the Vegan Vihara? (In which case: please email Jane, an thank you for mentioning it here because that makes it easier to co-ordinate plans).

Or do you mean you'd like to attend the festival as part of the crew - ie, as a volunteer instead of as a paying punter? If that's the case, you need to contact the festival via their website:

      http://www.buddhafiel...

I'm not connected with Buddhafield Festival. So I can't organise volunteer spots.

If you're confirmed, are you interested in getting the train from/to London with us to arrive together? If so, when are you coming & going?

    cannae wait!

Looking forward to it. When are you coming & going, and would you like to travel with us?

      June 30, 2013

  • Ian M.

If you're not going with Debbie, we could book our railway tickets together and take advantage of "Groupsave" (3 or 4 people travelling at the price of 2).

I'll be travelling up on Wednesday and back on Monday :).

    June 30, 2013

    • Ian M.

We've got another non-LVM person who is coming from Wednesday & going Sunday, so we only need 1 or 2 more people to do Groupsave.

I teach yoga at this lovely little festie every year. Its got a great atmosphere, attracts lovely people, and is crammed full of fantastic free workshops - yoga classes all day, ecstatic dance, soulful singing, theatre of the oppressed, and so many more - as well as offering magical music and delicious vegan food. It's on a beautiful site and very child friendly. I look forward to seeing you there! x
