NATIONAL MARCH AGAINST THE BADGER CULL

Further info from www.londonagainstthecull.org.uk on route etc

The March meets near Tate Britain, Millbank, SW1P 4RG at 12pm for a 1pm leaving time with speakers around 12.45pm in Millbank.

If you can walk short distances but do not think you’d be able to manage the whole march, it may be possible for you to return to Pimlico underground station after the speeches at Millbank (around 1pm) and take the Victoria line to Victoria, change on to the Circle or district line eastwards and then alight 2 stops later at Westminster. The march will be passing parliament (at around 2pm) and turning left onto Parliament Square where you could re-join the march which then only passes the Queen Elizabeth Conference centre before ending in Tothill Street and dispersing. Alternatively you could get off at the circle or district line at St James Park station and walk down Tothill Street to greet the march as it arrives at its destination (at around 2.30pm-3pm).

If you are a wheelchair user you can arrive at Westminster Underground station (which has step free access) and make your way to the meet at Millbank where there will be speeches (at around 12.30pm). Alternatively you can join the march at Parliament Square (at around 2pm) and march to Tothill Street where the march will disperse.

One of our stewards can sign BSL (not a professional interpreter) and will be available to sign the speeches. If you sign please come close to the platform where the speakers are speaking from, where you will be able to see clearly.

PLEASE NOTE
The times are approximations and are subject to change we cannot guarantee any timing’s.
The closest tube to the meet point and start of the march is Pimlico (Victoria Line)
The closest tube to the end destination is St James Park (District and Circle Line)
Please note the speeches are at the meet point. There is nothing notable other than a ‘badger dance’ going on at the end.

Please join me on the National March Against The Badger Cull.

Those of you who know me probably know that I’m not much of a political activist, or political anything really, but there comes a time to make your voice heard and this is definitely one of those times. Show the government that you oppose the badger cull which is due to take place this summer - despite a parliamentary vote last October of 147 to 28 in favour of abandoning the cull! The badger cull is morally, politically and scientifically flawed and scapegoats a beautiful and endangered species in order to hide poor farming practices. Please watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_55z1AgLM_c

We’ll meet outside Pimlico tube station at 11.15am, then we’ll take the short walk to Tate Britain, Millbank for the start of the march to DEFRA leaving at 12 noon. Speakers and exact march route are to be confirmed.

Please dress in black and white if you can.

This is a joint London Vegan and London Vegetarian meet-up. The Animal Rights meet-up group are also marching so we’ll keep an eye out for them along the way.

A family day out in aid of a good cause! Bring badger masks, black and white balloons, home-made banners, lots of energy and good vibes!

Transport leaving from all over the country:
Confirmed coaches so far leaving from Manchester, Birmingham, Coventry, Gloucestershire and Bristol. More locations to be announced.

Good, but I don't think we gain anything from walking through quiet streets.

Yea, I recognised as well about the empty streets thing and also yes was sure that it wasn't really much of our choice.. Hmm.. Was amazing to see so many ppl marching though but then again - how dare they just to cut off our protest as so many came for a peaceful protest with children, hello?! However, glad I came :D

looks like there's going to be quite a bit of hanging about before speeches and then march starts but please try to turn up on time so that we can all find each other. Also, you may want to bring something to sit on, water to drink and vegan snacks - to share of course!

Here's a bit of fun from Harry Hill.... 'Blame it on the Badgers', (re; 'Boogie' by Jackson 5!!) .... you could always turn this into a March chant... by adding ''Don't'' to the title! :) x

You might like to listen to Lord John Krebs interviewed on radio 4 talking about why the cull does not have a sound scientific basis: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01sj1sp
    - start 19 minutes into the interview.

I'm not an animal rights activist or anything, but they should leave the poor badgers alone!

If you care about them enough to take a stand, then by definition you are an activist :) 'Taking action for what you believe in' :) x
