New Year's Eve

RSVPs (and Archangel guest list) now closed.

BUT... you can still come to The Goat. (No RSVP required.)

Please do not go to the Prince of Wales.

If you're planning to come to the
Archangel, then you must have a confirmed RSVP for this event. (Otherwise they'll charge you a tenner on the door.) So if you're not planning to come to the Archangel, then please do not RSVP to this event - so that someone else can come. (You'll still be able to attend any other elements.)

OK... here's the plan. A multi-venue extravaganza. The "Kensington Vegan Stumble-about", if you will. No stupid admission fees. (Nor even sensible ones!) Just pay for your food and drink. (And pay for overdoing it come the morning...)

Four different optional elements, just a minute's walk from each other. Come to as many or as few as you like. Just turn up when you turn up. And go home when you can't stand up.

Dinner at SAF (7pm - 10pm)
As you may know, FatGayVegan has organised a New Year's Eve Dinner for 70 people at SAF. There are still a few places available, so check out the menu to see if that's how you'd like to start your evening. (If so, you'll need to book online in advance. You won't just be able to turn up. And SAF will not be open to the general public.)

Food at Whole Foods Market food court (until 8pm)
If you're not going to SAF, but still want a bite to eat, then the Whole Foods Market's food court will be open until 8. But they'll probably stop serving around 7:30, so get there early if you want to eat! (This bit's not being "organised" as such; people can just come and go as they please.)

Drinks at The Archangel (8pm - 5am)
The Archangel is actually the one place in London that still does the famous Red Veg burger. (See FatGayVegan's blog here!) While, sadly, these won't be available on the night, the lovely manager has very kindly offered up to 100 of us free admission (normally £10). However, this only for those with a confirmed RSVP. They'll have a DJ playing a wide range of music, but they're likely to get busy (so you may need to queue - especially if you arrive later).

The manager of the Archangel is doing us a massive favour here - giving over around half of his space at no cost (when he could be charging the general public around £1,000). And Sean and Josh have put a lot of time and effort into making this happen. For free. All because of their love for London's vegans. So please show your appreciation by at least buying a few drinks from the bar. Let's support those businesses that support us! Thanks. (Feel free to buy one for Sean too, 'cos he's been busting his balls to make this work!)

Drinks at The Goat Tavern (8pm - 1am)
If you didn't manage to get a place for The Archangel, if you don't want to pay a tenner to get in, if you'd prefer somewhere a little quieter, if you're looking for vegan wine, or if you'd just like a change of scenery, we now have an overflow space in The Goat! You don't need to have RSVPed to come to The Goat; all are welcome. (So if you're ONLY going to The Goat, please change your RSVP to "No", if you already have a confirmed RSVP.)

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.....Happy New Year! Shall we do it again, as it was great, but felt rather surreal when the start of 'Gangnam Style' was inturrupted briefly by a bit of ambient (?) music, someone later said there were (faint) Big Ben chimes in there, somewhere....mad! So I was glancing at friends, going, ok, it's midnight then!! But apart from that, it was a nice kitsch place (anyone else notice the ''nuns/saints'' in gold frames; bit weird, as 2 out of 3 of those women are no longer with us! RIP Amy Winehouse...) ....some good music, funny saloon doors by the loos...good company & all sorts of drunken behaviour, from funny to zombie! I had a nice chat with the canopies guy; when I told him no thanks re; the quiche he let me know there'd be falafal, then bruschetta! :) I didn't get round to trying the bruschetta, but the falafal was nice! :) Here's to a very Happy Vegan New Year!! All the best, Jess :) x

In my experience, nightclubs and the like don't really bother with a proper countdown, so I wasn't surprised that I had to rely on my own watch to know when it actually was midnight... x

If you didn't get a free space at the Archangel, and decide to pay a tenner to get in, you'll get a free glass of champagne - and it's vegan!

  • Robb

Although we have 100 places on the guest list for Archangel, we obviously can't ask (or expect) them to hold that space for us. So I'd suggest getting to the Archangel early-ish to make sure you get in!

  • George E.

I'm thinking I'd like to go to The Goat but there isn't a RSVP "NO" to register as asked.
    Does this matter?

    December 30, 2013

    • George E.

Thanks Helen, but I asked the question based on the fact that I hadn't RSVP'd to any of the get togethers. The instructions I read were that you don't need a RSVP to go to the goat but it then says RSVP "NO" if you are only going to The Goat which confused me because I can't imagine anyone who was only going to The Goat, RSVP'ing for the Archangel?

      December 30, 2013

    • Robb

Sorry for any confusion, George. You don't need to need any kind of RSVP to come to The Goat.

      December 31, 2013

  • Dilip

Hi Robb, any chance you can change the waiting list set up so if someone changes their rsvp to a no then those on the wait list automatically move up the list. It's only fair

    December 31, 2013

    • Robb

That's fine well in advance of an event. But this close to an event that option invariably results in wasted spaces - as the people who get bumped up often don't see their emails in time. Besides, we're putting on an entirely free event to which the first 100 people to RSVP have got a spot, and we've arranged an additional venue for anyone that hasn't, so I don't think it's reasonable to claim it's "unfair"!

    Opps...please do not misunderstand.
Not that I think hic-ups will happen tonight.
It's just that I hope to see everyone to say think you and Happy New Year but my plans might be swayed or changed a little and I might miss some people on this evenings adventure.
Plus it is also a thank you to those not in London tonight because they are celebrating elsewhere.
x Be smart, be safe and I hope you all have a great New Year.

Looking forward to SAF dinner and Archangel after.
I know New Years arrangements don't always go as planned because of unforeseen hic-cups... so would just like to say now....
Thank you thank you thank you.
In May this year, I attended my first LVMeetUp.
    One word....addictive.
    :-)
Events such as pot luck, drinks, picnics, fairs, talks, walkabouts and more....have been amongst the best moments of my year.
It's all been so great because of the kindness and great effort made by the organisers and the warm welcome by fellow attendees.
I hope to see more of everyone in 2014.
Wishing you all a safe and joyful New Year.

Rayhana, there are 4 tickets available for the dinner at Saf. There are no free spots to the late night bar but you are welcome to put your name on the waitlist by RSVPing. If enough people drop out, you should get a space. The only other alternative is to show up on the night and try to pay on the door (£10). This is not a guarantee as the club can only let so many people inside.

Please see the important updates above.

While Sean (FatGayVegan) has put a lot of time and effort into making arrangements with the pub that we were planning to use (with much appreciated assistance from Josh to investigate the vegan suitability of their wines) he's been messed around to the extent that even if they promised to meet their original commitment to us, we could no longer trust them them to deliver. Or even open. So we won't be going there after all. Indeed, we don't plan to go there ever again.

Luckily, the manager of the Archangel has very kindly come to our rescue at the eleventh hour. So we'll now be going there from the start of the evening rather than from the early morning.

But please see the full event details above regarding how to get free admission.

Jess, the only reason you will need ID is if the bar staff think you are not old enough to drink.

      December 27, 2013

    • Jessica Stella F.

Cheers Sean; of course, though I read a footnote on the website ''...all ID will be scanned...'' as part of their licence, but I think from what Robb's saying, they're expecting a group of us to turn up or groups there of quoting LVM so should be straight forward...only complication I can think of is a guest list; I use a pen name (I'm not a real Fox! :) ) so my passport *my only form of ID with photo* has a different name! :) Anyway, should be fine... :) x

Answers to a couple of questions....

    * You have a "confirmed RSVP" if the home page for London Vegan Meetup (http://www.meetup.com/londonvegan/) says "I'm attending" against the event. (Obviously, you'll need to be logged in for this!)

    * It's probably a good idea to bring ID.

    * If you have a "plus one" (or a "plus two") please arrive together. (Let me know if that's not going to be possible.)
