London Vegan Potluck

Hosted by Fat Gay Vegan :)  >> Come one, come all to the friendliest food event in London. On the first Wednesday of each month, vegans and vegan-friendlies gather in a celebration of fabulous food in a very cool location.

Have you got an interesting vegan recipe you’ve been keen to try? Do you want to impress other vegans with your superb cooking skills? Would you like to eat delicious food made by fellow London vegans?

If you answered “Yes! Oh please, yes!” to any or all of the above questions, London Vegan Potluck needs you.

Entry fee: £1

I tend to arrive at the venue by 6.30pm, though it's advisable to arrive a bit earlier to get your dish down before Sean lets everyone loose at around 6.15/20, to start filling their plates/eating! Whenever you arrive, (some people do arrive at 7, which is fine, but we do need to leave bang on 8pm, ideally a few minutes before hand) if you're new to the group and/or this event, don't be scared/worried--everyone is very friendly, so let people know you're new and get talking about the dish you made, etc! Do come and find me; check out my photo on my profile, (I have long aurburn hair, I wear black rimmed glasses and tend to wear purple/black, etc), or by the plates trolly, ask Sean, Josh or Kip where I am. I'll be happy to introduce you to my friends and later, if you are up for the pub, do follow us to The Citie of Yorke (High Holborn, a minute walk from Chancery Lane Tube, near Grays Inn Road,) for drinking and socializing till 11pm-ish! :)

The venue is a spacious room provided to us by Syracuse University London Program. The potluck is in the basement auditorium, which is large enough to hold 100+ potluckers and we are extremely grateful to the University. The space is fantastic and the perfect home for our monthly event. You won’t be disappointed!

The venue is a 3 minute walk from Holborn Underground Station (Piccadilly and Central Lines) and is serviced by a massive number of bus routes (map available here as a PDF).

On arrival at Faraday House, the friendly reception staff will welcome you and point you in the direction of the potluck.

What is a potluck? A potluck is an event where like-minded people get together to share homemade food, swap recipes, make friends and talk about topics that interest them.

What is a vegan potluck? It is the same as a potluck but with vegan food! There is no dairy, meat, honey or eggs. The food can be sweet or savoury. Our event requires potluckers to provide an ingredients list with their dish as well as utensils to serve it with if required and a plate or dish to serve it on. This is a helpful resource if you are unfamiliar with hidden animal ingredients in food.

Who can attend? Simple answer: anyone who brings homemade food. If you want to share food you have made and eat food others have made, you are a perfect candidate for the London Vegan Potluck. You just need to RSVP. We need to keep track of numbers for plate/cutlery purposes. YOU MUST BRING HOMEMADE FOOD IF YOU WISH TO TAKE PART. ONE DISH PER PERSON IS A REQUIREMENT. TWO PEOPLE CANNOT ATTEND WITH ONE DISH.

What about drinks? You cannot bring drinks instead of food! Any drinks you bring must be in addition to food you have made yourself. Please make sure any alcohol you bring is vegan. Barnivore is a good resource for checking vegan alcohol. In addition, Sainsbury’s, The Cooperative and Marks & Spencers supermarkets advise on the label whether their alcohol is suitable for vegans. Bring cups for serving if you bring drinks!

Start planning your dish. Be bold and creative. Be simple and dependable. Either way, cook to impress. Spread news of the potluck far and wide. We have a huge amount of potluckers every month and this event is set to be just as spectacular.

You can also RSVP on the Facebook event page and invite non-Meetup friends.

See you all at London Vegan Potluck!

All the best, bye for now, Jess :)

Thank you all potluckers who braved the tube strike & made it eventually. As usual it was a fabulous evening with the yummiest food around! Kudos to Sean, Josh & Jessica!

Btw, few potluckers asked me for the recipe of my dish 'Guilt-Free Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Balls'. Here is the recipe link:

Thank you 'gluten free vegan girl'!

I'm not prepared to have the comments on any more events disrupted by an ongoing dispute between a handful of current members and one former member. So far, this has happened to five events (including one that was entirely unrelated) and we've lost almost 50 members (although not all gave a reason for leaving).

If you really feel the need to discuss it further, please start *one* discussion on our discussion board. Any further comments about this on group events will be deleted. And anyone who persists in posting them will be removed. (Not "banned", just removed until they can play nicely.)

The same goes for any discussion about this policy.

    February 4, 2014

    • L.Galvin

I really do not think these events should be on the meetup any more given the appalling behaviour of FGV to some of us.. you know that he has not only banned Robert but also me now from all his events????

    2 · February 3, 2014

    • Lesley D.

Thanks for the "like" Tom and Robert.. I do hope he has not banned you too Tom! He seems to be on a roll with banning people, it's just disgusting and wrong and he needs to be exposed for the dictator he is!

My second one too. I am thinking of doing a batch of Kale crisps this time - two different flavours, and perhaps a raw cheesecake. Those seem to go fast. I am also coming early in case there are more sprouts!!!

    Thanks for organising this FGV

Sounds fab! Oh, I did some tofu cheesecakes last year! So simple to make! They were tofu and banana based, with chocolate! :)

  • Victoria

Hi, this might be a silly question but should all the dishes be served cold or is this a microwave to re-heat food?

    January 29, 2014

    • Jessica Stella F.

Hi Victoria ; if you can bring them fresh/ hot to potluck, if that's at all practical/potluck, do, but generally speaking dishes are served cold. There is a kitchen but access to it has been on/off. I do not know at this time if there's access so I'm going to guess no & say make what you can, bring it as hot as you can if you want to/can, but don't worry if that just isn't possible, bring it cold! :) See you there! All the best, Jess :)

*Haha I appear to have said potluck when I meant something else there!! Haha! I meant ''...if that's at all practical/ possible...'' (?) * :)

Please be aware of some changes:

It is no longer acceptable to attend with store bought food. Your contribution must be homemade and you must bring one dish per person.

It is no longer acceptable to attend with just drinks. Drinks can be brought in addition to your homemade food. If you bring drinks, you also need to supply cups.
