Book Club @ Tibits

  • Jun 10, 2014 · 6:30 PM

Welcome to Book Club at Tibits.

We plan to meet regularly on the second Tuesday of the month. Everyone is welcome, just bring yourself, a suggestion for the next book and a desire to eat some yummy food. If you've actually read this month's book, even better!

Each month we vote for a book to read for the meeting in two months time - this hopefully gives everyone enough time to acquire and read the book.

The book for June is "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" by Douglas Adams:

The book for July is "The Reason I Jump" by Naoki Higashida (you probably want the English translation :-)):

I recommend GreenMetropolis for second hand books, as all proceeds go either to the seller or charity.

That's terrible, Melissa. If you need Laika with you, she should be allowed in. Do you want us to raise this with Tibits for you? I'm willing to challenge them on it.

no, you didn't read my text properly, ALL dogs are allowed in all public places, as long as under control/not contaminating food

I am just trying to make people aware, the same thing happened at the intrepid fox, I was escorted off the premises like a criminal, everyone from the group was going on about how wonderful laika is and they would like to own her, but everyone else went in and nobody refused to frequent the pub, despite the fact I was saying this...I don't hold it against anyone, just making people aware...

Hiya, just to let you know, I don't go to these meetings anymore, as Tibits, amongst others, have refused me entry with Laika
    Dear Ms Serpico,

There is a misconception in the UK that dogs are not allowed in places where food is served; this is not the case. The only legal obligation on the owner is to make sure there is no risk of contamination and that all food preparation areas are up to specified hygiene standards.

I can confirm that guide dog and assistance dog owners have important rights under the Equality Act 2010. The Equality Act provides for disabled people to have the same right to services supplied by shops, banks, hotels, libraries, pubs, taxis and restaurants as everyone else.

The Equality Act 2010 can be found in full at:

    Yours sincerely,
