I've been meaning to suggest a meetup here for a while and have finally got round to it!
This is the sister veggie pub to the Coach & Horses in Soho but better food and more vegan-friendly.
They have been doing Sunday lunches for 4 weeks now and I find it a treat to be able to have a vegan sunday lunch in a traditional London pub.
It isn't cheap but I think it's worth it.
The roast alone is £12.95. 2 courses will set you back £15.95 and three, £18.95.
They have both vegetarian and vegan roasts. The two vegan ones are a butternut squash & quinoa dish and a aubergine & lentil dish. Both are good but the aubergine was my preference. Very tasty. They come with all the trimmings. Roast spuds, cabbage, green beans, carrots, Yorkshire pudding and vegan gravy.
I haven't tried the starters or desserts yet but they sound good.
Sadly, no vegan-ales on draught but there is a vegan-friendly lager. Not sure on the wine front yet.
I have spoken to the owner (who I believe is coming to Vegan Drinks this Thursday as suggested by Alex I apparently just missed there last Sunday) and so long as we give about a weeks notice he can accommodate a largeish group.
Suggested date 4th November?
Hi Amran
I'm hoping you've kept a note of what I/we ordered, as I for one can't remember!
Looking forward to seeing you all and to a yummy lunch very soon,
Hils
November 4
The Smithfield Tavern
Sunday roast
Roast £ 12.95
Two courses (starter + main/ main + dessert) £ 15.95
Three courses (starter + main + dessert) £18.95
Selection of vegan roasts:
Stuffed butternut squash with quinoa ,macadamia nut and red onion
Very delicate flavour, macadamia nuts gives a fresh nut taste as they are soaked overnight in water, butternut squash is roasted then mixed with quinoa and silken tofu for a creamy texture, nutritional yeast would give a slightly ‘cheesy’ taste. (Vegan and gluten free)
Stuffed aubergine with puy lentils ,roasted tomatoes and herbs
Stronger flavour as the Lentils and onion are cooked with herbs till just soft, tomatoes and aubergines are roasted with red wine to give a smoky flavour, and paprika and nutritional yeast help to stabilize the taste. (Vegan and gluten free)
Plus roasted carrots, savoy cabbage, green beans, broccoli, roasted potatos and Yorkshire pudding.
November 4
Sorry for the delay in responding to your request. I'm so sorry but I can't make this now. I hope to come another time you all go there.
November 2
I'll be running a stall at Islington Assembly Halls popup vintage fair, Upper St., on that day; I can get two or three people in for free (entrance is £3/£2 students). Leave me a message here if you'd like to round off the afternoon and I'll put your name on the list. Runs until 4
November 2
Hi. Please may I have the vegan butternut squash roast. Yum! Thanks for organising this. x
November 1
Thanks to Dawn, Hils and Susanna for letting me know their choices of vegan roast - please could everyone else try and do the same?
Also, I have been asked by Robb to stress that as this is a vegan meetup only vegan options should be ordered from the menu.
The pub manager has confirmed that they have a selection of vegan wines availible and that they have the following lagers that they believe are vegan - Leffe, Stella and Becks.
Once again, if you are not coming please let that be known asap so someone else can take your place.
Thanks
Amran

Hello all. I spoken to the owner today and he confirmed that 4th November is fine.
As soon as I receive them I will post the menus. It would help if we got an indication in advance as to which of the two vegan roasts you would like.
