Fundraising evening for the Deer!

An evening of music, quiz, socialising, snacks, cake, and games (some soft drinks provided but all are invited to BYOB if you wish), £7 entry if confirming a place in advance, or £10 on the door.
This is being held to raise money for the campaign to end the deer cull in London's Royal Parks.
Cheques can be made out to TANSVEG (Twickenham and North Surrey Vegetarians and Vegans), or cash paid direct to me Lesley Dove, 35 Rectory Grove, Hampton, TW12 1AH.
PAYPAL now available, please pay to [masked] on Paypal, but also please when you do it let me know at the same time, so no confusion about who has paid and who has not!
Donations also very welcome from non-attendees.

10.00 Short game if we do not run terribly over for time.

I will alter this as necessary but this is a rough idea of the plans for the evening (I imagine times will run over a bit as I think this is usual). We should be finished by 10.30-11pm I am estimating.
I am looking for a volunteer to be quizmaster as our quiz compiler will be out of action at this time (I will do it as the default but prefer someone who can do it better!). Obviously you get free entry if you do this job!

Well if everyone who replied as a yes but has not paid for a ticket shows up, I MAY have to turn a few ppl away.. oh well no more I can do as everyone has had ample warning I think by now! I make it that I can sell 4 more tickets, but really no more than that assuming everyone who bought one is going to attend. If you bought one and cannot attend please let me know in case of ppl turning up on the night and so I know how many can be let in paying on the door, thank you! Thank you Robert Platt for finding the info and putting on the London AR Meet Up group, it may also be of help to those on here who are not on that Meet Up group.
I really appreciate it that Robert did this, and as I recall there are a few parking places just in front of the Environment Centre in case anyone is driving.

We have a few tickets left even at this late stage but as we have only 5 or 6 left I am concerned that several ppl from the meet up groups and facebook who have not paid upfront may just turn up on the evening and the possibility of having to turn some of you away due to lack of space.
Please if you reply yes here could you clarify you are really planning on coming and if so please remember to pay your ticket on paypal before Friday. Too late for any more cheques in the post I think though. Jerome in particular could you please let me know your plans?March 10

Would anyone like the job of quizmaster and musical act announcer (obviously you get in free if you're a helper, either with music, food or being quizmaster/announcer!)? If there are no takers I will do it of course as I was planning to anyway, but I'd be somewhat less nervous with someone else doing it in case as the organiser I find I need to do other things on the evening.
We will have snacks and a few soft drinks on offer but you are invited to BYOB of course!
I've just changed the blurb at the top of the page to reflect these details.

We have a lady from Walthamstow who has given a non-attending donation (on the AR meet up group), and she would probably come if anyone else is driving from her area and can give her a lift because it is very hard getting back on public transport late at night. Is anyone on this group planning to come from that end of London by car who can offer Marnie a lift?

Please would you be able to put in your booking and payment early to help me get that bit closer to being sure of enough support to go ahead? Selling sufficient early bird tickets, ie an absolute minimum of 15 out of a possible 25 is key to me being sure of being able to go ahead with this event!

Please just reply as a maybe unless you're definitely attending this and planning to send your payment very soon, it is very important with this type of event. Due to hall hire and number of cakes needed we do need to know REAL numbers!
Also I need most of the bookings and payments upfront to be able to go ahead with the event, it would really helpful if most of the bookings were in by the beginning of March please (there may be a few places on the door but I would not recommend it and best to go for "early bird" price in advance).February 11

OH no I am so terribly sorry for misjudging your intentions Marnie, please forgive me! I have been stressing out no end over this event as actual committed paid up bookings are going so painfully slowly.. and it's just been so stressful organising the campaign with one person after another criticisin and trying to tell me what to do.. while generally not always being actually helpful in any real way most of them!

We're not a registered charity, that would be too much extra work, I don't think all grassroots animal campaigns are registered charities and it is also harder to become a charity if you have possibly political aims anyway. It is simply being done to help with the costs incurred which have been considerable, in this campaign against the deer cull, mainly on leaflet printing. It is up to you if you trust me or not though. So far the costs have come almost entirely out of my husband's wage packet, for the printer cartridges, to print the leaflets, we have only had donations totalling £30 up to now (not associated with this event but from two vegan friends who supported me and knew it was costing us a lot of money), however that does not even come close to covering the costs of what we will keep needing to do to cover to keep the campaign going, mainly printing of awareness leaflets to hand out door to door and on our demos in Kingston and Richmond.

I know, it is a hard decision, I do not feel so sure about asking ppl to pay an extra fee on top of the £7, it just feels like it might discourage some ppl, it is hard enough getting ppl to commit payments in advance already, but thanks for your input. I will certainly think about it. I just hope I will see enough ppl to at least sell some spaces at the event in person to them.
You have always been so helpful Sean in advising me, thanks for that.
I am very disappointed with Barrow Boys though, did you know they never even had the courtesy to reply to my request for the crisps stuck in the depot on the way to you which were too late for your event?! So I am in search of a vegan savoury snack company which is more reliable and might support this event with a few freebies, otherwise it will be just tea/juice and Mavis' homemade vegan cakes as a little bit of refreshments (which are always delicious anyway).January 30

If they can do it in the US which let's face it has more of a culture of deer hunting than we do in the UK, then we surely could do non-lethal control here, if the Royal Parks had the will to do so.
They make around £30,000 a year from the venison by the way. I do not believe that is insignificant to their decision not to push DEFRA for licensing of wildlife contraception in the UK.

There are also some animal rights campaigners who hold the view that deer will self-regulate and not overbreed and starve. I am a bit sceptical as this is an enclosed park, so I am not opposed to non-lethal alternatives of control on their numbers. I am also looking into more expert opinions on whether or not they will self-regulate effectively, so as to help me in working out which way to go with the campaign.
At present we simply call on an end to the cull and that is the sole objective of this campaign regardless which alternative is picked to take the place of the cull.
There is also the option of relocating if there are too many although that means finding a suitable place.

The arrangements for the fundraiser for the anti-deer culling campaign are coming on nicely, but I can sell only a maximum of 25 tickets.
Allowing for myself and all the musical contributors and one or two others who are helping by providing food/quiz questions/etc, as the room can accommodate 20-30 comfortably and up to 40 less comfortably, so decided I can allow just a little over 30 ppl in the room.
So if you can send off your cheque for your space sooner rather than later it will help you be assured of your place at this event! Once I get your cheque I will confirm on email that you have your place.

Unless you are a helper with music or other aspects of this event replying on here does not guarantee your place without payment.
Some more expensive places MAY be available on the night but as this cannot be guaranteed, depending on advance ticket sales.
I wouldn't guarantee leaving sending advance payments until any later than 8th March, as I only have snail mail and no online payment set up (though anyone local can drop it in to me at home or some of you might be able to hand over payment at an earlier event - contact me for details of meeting up if you prefer to pay in person).
