I am a 26 year old that lives in Hemel Hempstead but works in London. I visited the Vegan Drinks event for the first time in September 2012.
I do not eat meat, fish, dairy or eggs. I don't use leather but I am still getting used to avoiding wool. I'll get there one day! I also do not necessarily disagree with the use of honey. My ethics centre around the right of all animals (humans included) to freedom and life. On the rare occasion that I believe animal products can be gathered without sufferring, I would be less likely to reject these.
I eat a lot of fake meat from companies like Linda McCartney and Redwood Food co. I love curry, pie, salad, houmous, soup and really just about any animal-free food. I think my restrictive diet makes me try to be as adventurous as possible when I actually have a choice. My favourite milk alternative is either almond milk or oat milk. Oh and I eat peanut butter practically every day for protein after the gym.
Vanilla Blacks is a very cool restaurant. That's the only one I've been to in London! De Muths restaurant in Bath is lovely as well.
The most bizzarre, yet common one is people who don't understand why vegetarians and vegans eat meat shaped food. If you want to eat meat, as the argument goes, then why not just eat meat? I usually give the simple answer that it is the source of my food, not the shape, that I might find offensive.
At 26 years old I have finally decided it is time to meet people who share my ethics. I'm a very sociable guy but have only ever spent time with people that do not understand me. It would be nice to spend a bit of time with those that do.
