Easy Realtime Statistics For Games & Web Apps

This month we have a very relevant subject for anyone having to keep tabs on their web application as it grows and gets used.
The subject of Realtime Stats is quite challenging when trying to get appropriate data at the appropriate time to swivel to meet changing customer demands.
Game development, or Gamification of websites adds new requirements into the mix, with compounding scenarios to track, a user may have taken a multitude of paths to get to where they currently are - ideally you can find the trends in those paths and make relevant business decisions.
Niall Giggins has had a long history of building stats engines using open source platforms, for both game development, and more recently social networking software. He will take you through the challenges faced, and the ways to conceptualize and solve these challenging problems.

Brendan SterneNiall presented an architecture for managing both ops and business metrics in the same system. Events are counted in memcache, then periodically sync'd to Zabbix for storage, graphing, and alerting. Interesting idea to set up Zabbix alerts based on business stats, such as 'Nobody has successfully registered in the past N hours!'. A good chat at the pub afterwards. Thanks to all who put this on.

Natálie ZábranováUnfortunately only a small number of registered participants showed up for this event. Speaker was very good, really knew his area of expertise, but talked really quietly and the presentation was too long. Furthermore, the discussion was very technical, a bit too developer-focu
sed for me. I would have really appreciated a clearer description of the presentation topics in advance. Otherwise quite a nice venue, not a bad evening, but could have been more engaging and fun.
