How to Increase Community Online (name changed)

  • Mar 21, 2013 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Tonight is more of a structured discussion than a talk - and our first Virtual meetup online - it centers on how to allow long lasting connections between members in web communities. The London Web team will aim to meet on Google Hangouts at another time during the month long term to discuss:

  • finding great speakers
  • collaborating on web projects
  • deciding how connections between members of the community can be enhanced
  • establishing press releases and speaking up for our web professionals regarding matters concerning our members
  • giving back to the community where needed
  • deciding on support for crowd funded ideas using kick starter and other platforms
  • encouraging the younger future of our web community
  • developing the website and web apps to be hosted off www.londonweb.org and www.londonwebmeetup.org

Each third Thursday of the month, we should find richer connections being made in the social times before and after the talk.

For the first time, we're using Google Hangouts, broadcast live on YouTube, so just visit http://www.londonwebmeetup.org from 7.20pm on Thursday.

RSVP to the right! - then connect with Google Hangouts.

It's a bit of a balance between combining forces to work on projects relating to this goal in our 'Free Time' - of which we all have little of, and paying people from some kind of crowd funding model.

By using LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter & Meetup.com more as a group, along with Foursquare, Youtube, Vimeo, iTunes and the other networking tools, people in these meetings, when also on the WIFI with laptops to ensure virtualised attendees are not missing out - will be able to engage in whole new ways.

Agenda:

  • Introductions
  • the vision
  • discussion
  • action points
  • networking

Note, this will be filmed and edited, so the majority of the discussion will not be released to the wider group or the public. Any parts that are released, we will seek permission from those contributors first. The name of this meetup has changed as the old name was a bit vague.

Kind Regards,

First try at online virtualised meetups - not much participation and a few sound problems. A lot learned for future, but maybe a more 'known group' should connect and be more involved in the conversation in future. Good to try out Hangouts, BrightTALK and YouTube embeds.

Thanks to those who joined in for the first try at Google Hangouts - lots learned, and lots to learn - especially about sound control. The recorded talks are here: http://www.londonwebmeetup.org/live , and this will be the same place for any future live recordings.

We're all set to go with a page to contain our Hangout and Youtube stream: http://www.londonwebmeetup.org/live (but going to http://www.londonwebmeetup.org will get there too -- a bit later.
