In November, we welcome Yahoo, who will talk about their product, Pure. http://purecss.io/

Pure is a set of small responsive CSS modules that you can use in any web project.

The speaker is Riccardo Cocetta, a Front End Developer who works at Yahoo.

The talk will include:

  • A presentation of Pure features
  • A demo of the online tools such as Skin Builder, Layouts and Grid Builder
  • Some live coding examples

I wasnt to impressed by what yahoo are doing with pure but at the same time its early days so i do expect a lot more in the coming months. the speaker was abviously nervous and although he didnt have the knowledge to reply to some of our questions, i have to say some of those questions didn't make any sense at all. hope they take feedback to good use!!

I quite like the bits they are doing. Its still early days but creating a good reusable toolset that is enterprise ready, is yahoo's speciality.

I don't blame the presenter, it sounded like it was just his first talk about Pure so it didn't flow. The hotel sound system was quite bad. They covered a lot of the basics of responsive design and bootstraps... its was something many people have already done. just lighter. I hope they'll read this feedback as some constructive critique on this particular project.

Apart from telling us how light the product was I didn't get very much out of this. It's a good start for yahoo, but felt like they were promoting the product at such a premature stage was a little unimpressed.

I had to leave a little earlier, but wondered if they mentioned if they included fallback for things which aren't supported as he mentioned in IE8. Answer is probably not seeing how they are attempting to keep it as light as possible, but if you're going to standardise something don't neglect to make consistent things which you know aren't going to work. I could be wrong though.

I agree about the sound system. The air conditioning unit also came on at the back halfway through the talk which made it even harder to hear, not to mention chilly! I thought it was a good talk though. Thanks Riccardo.

I was delighted to have Yahoo offer to provide one of their actual developers to come and speak. Someone who is working with these technologies day in, day out. Sure he doesn't frequent the speaking circuit, and was a bit nervous at times (it was a large crowd) - but I love hearing from Doers, instead of always polished Speakers. There are a lot more Doers, and we need to encourage people to share what they know instead of requiring polished speakers every month.

Yahoo needs a better presenter who is fluid and polished. Did we really need to know the history of CSS? Slides with more examples would have been better.

yeah, would have liked more info on how they achieved it rather than just being presented as a black box

The technilogy exists and there was presentation of it. It is already great. Now it is to developpers to do their job and master this technology. It was a demo for techies.
