Our first meet-up for the year!

Brave the winter chill, and help to usher in the glorious new LWC regime at our time-honoured venue, The Carpenter's Arms. For those unfamiliar with the pub, it's at 12 Seymour Place, right around the corner from Marble Arch tube station.

We'll be rolling in from 7pm, but things probably won't get going till 7.30 or 8, depending on turn-out. Still, get in early for nibbles and contraband shop-bought red wine! The Writer's Group is upstairs, so just navigate your way through the hoardes of rowdy public servants propping up the bar, up the trecherous staircase, through the dank, unlit corridors to our glorious creative sanctuary!

The topic for our inaugural 2008 meet-up is "Secrets". So think of a short story, poem, performance piece or anything else that fits the topic. Note, for first-timers, the topic is applied very loosely!

It could be about secret pasts, secret lovers, or a yearning paean to the discontinuation of the Cadbury Secret bar. There's no word limit, so just bring whatever you're comfortable with sharing.

We normally read out our own work, but if you'd rather remain anonymous, get in touch with me directly through Meetup.com and I'll arrange to have one of our many fine public-speakers read it out for you.

Any questions, please email me: guy *underscore* kerr *at* hotmail.com (email removed due to swarms of Burkina Faso bankers offering millions)

Cheers and hope to see you all there!

Guy

you're right Sean, I definitely wasn't expecting such a good response! Nice problem to have. We'll see how many we get on the night, a few people are just dropping by so it shouldn't be *too* crammed. Gonna have to get tonnes of snacks now though ;)

I was wondering, 36 is huge count, will there be room for everyone in that room, not counting the maybes.. I messaged you on this as well Sir Guy. But hopefully it'll be ok.

    •  Fantastic night! Lots of discussion was generated from the pieces.... Lots of interesting people... All in all, a great way to spend a Valentine's Night in London! Am looking forward to the next meeting!
    •  Some beautiful creative energy flying around last night. Thanks to all those who attended and contributed to a fantastic first meet-up for 2008. Brilliant variety of styles, lengths and subject matter, encompassing the historical, emotional and spiritual permutations of "Secrets". Cracking discussion of some confronting topics too which was good to see - this isn't a tea and cucumber sandwiches event after all. Thanks again and I'll schedule the next one ASAP, once I get the venue sorted out. Cheers...
