Guest talk: Publisher Scott Pack of The Friday Project

  • Sep 23, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

I'm delighted to tell you that this month's special guest is none other than Scott Pack. For those of you who don't know, Scott's the brains behind HarperCollins's quirky, agile and always surprising imprint, The Friday Project.

Scott will be joining us to talk about getting published, writing well and the fabulous writers' community that is authonomy, so I'll allow plenty of time for questions!

When he's not publishing, he also heads up the authonomy website, a community of unpublished writers from which the top titles are reviewed by HarperCollins each month. Before he was a publisher he spent over 15 years in retail at HMV and Waterstones. He blogs at the Me and My Big Mouth blog and is rather fond of cake.

Hopefully that covers everything you'll need to know but for any queries, please email us.

Time: 7pm to 9pm

Costs: £10

Location: The Shooting Star is less than 5mins walk from Liverpool Street station, on the central Line. See google maps for details.

Take the Bishopsgate exit from the main rail concourse, cross the road, turn right at Dirty Dicks pub onto Middlesex Street. The pub is about 100 metres down on the right-hand side, past Nandos, and we meet in the function room downstairs.

Fantastic talk. Thank you, Scott. And thank you Lisa for organising it.
I've been pretty brutal with my amendments to the second (really 78th) draft today. Long may the clarity continue!

Fantastic talk from Scott... Both an informative and genuinely entertaining chap. Very impressed at the detail he went into when answering questions and I also found his three 'not to do' tips to be very useful. I'm now very keen to finish my novel and loiter outside his office until he agrees to read the damn thing!

Scott is an excellent speaker and gave us a glimpse at one of the most dynamic and innovative parts of the publishing business. His practical advice to writers was detailed and very useful.

One of the best I have been to. Scott managed to be both entertaining and give an immense amount of practical advice which I found to be particularly helpful.
    Over, Over, Under and away!

I'm new on the block. I'm back in London after very long times away... I've been in New Zealand (for decades) and Rome for nearly a year. I'm looking to 'up my game' (as the saying goes) and figure out how the big pond writing pond works and how the hell I am going to swim in it. And I know I will swim. I'm a good little ponds anyway....mmm....doubt nibbles away...mmm....
