Pacing your novel using character/story arcs with Julie Cohen *SOLD OUT*

  • May 13, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Shooting Star pub

Julie Cohen is the bestselling author of 24 novels and a qualified creative writing teacher. What this woman doesn't know about story construction could fit on a poppy seed. I've asked her into LWC to deliver this workshop on pacing any story using character/story arcs.

This will be a technical 2-hr writing workshop, so please bring writing implements with you because you'll want to take loads (and LOADS) of notes. I went to Julie's workshop at The Festival of Writing last year and it changed my understanding of writing characters and their stories for good.

Through a series of writing exercises, Julie will show us how your lead character is the only thing you need to construct a plot. Sounds basic, I know, but how many writers (me included) struggle with plotting and using story arcs correctly? Probably quite a few!

Costs: £10 per session. Please follow the steps to pay via PayPal when you RSVP. Refunds will only be offered if the meetup is cancelled.

Location: The Shooting Star is less than 5mins walk from Liverpool Street station, on the central Line.

Directions: Take the Bishopsgate exit from the main rail concourse, cross the road, turn right at Dirty Dicks pub onto Middlesex Street. The pub is about 100 metres down on the right-hand side and we meet in the function room downstairs.

Hi all, I'm so pleased at the popularity of this talk - clearly pacing is a HOT topic.

We have a special set up tonight which is why I've had to limit place numbers - sorry. Please make sure you are on the attending list as I won't have any spare places on the door (and I'll not be able to let you in). Our start time is 7pm. (If you're arriving late, please enter the room as quietly as possible.) All that said, I'm so excited for this talk and I know you're all going to love Julie. She'll have a few copies of her new novel too because you'll want to read how she does it after this talk! http://bit.ly/1jmKh3V
