Creative writing workshop

London Writers' Cafe is a community for writers who want input on their work. The majority of our group are writing short stories and their first novels but we're open to hearing any form of creative writing - plays, poetry, scripts - all welcome.

Anyone coming to a meeting can reserve a reading spot but there's only enough time for six readers at each one. Being a reader means you'll have ten minutes to read your piece and then roughly another ten minutes for constructive critique, comments and questions on your work from the group. If you'd like to read please post a comment below this description to request a slot. We'll always confirm readers a week or so before the meeting.

If you are reading, please bring at least 10 copies to be shared as you'll get more thorough feedback. We encourage all members to read but there will never be any pressure to do this until you feel ready.

Please note: Due to time limits, there are only only six slots per meeting so please check before you book, by reading through the comments below, if all the slots have been taken. We're very popular so it's very wise to book early if you want to read.

Hopefully that covers everything you'll need to know but for any burning questions, please email us.

Costs: £5 per session; please pay by PayPal when you RSVP.

Location: The Shooting Star is less than 5mins walk from Liverpool Street station, on the central Line. See google maps for details.

Take the Bishopsgate exit from the main rail concourse, cross the road, turn left at Dirty Dicks pub onto Middlesex Street. The pub is about 100 metres down on the right-hand side, past Nandos, and we meet in the function room downstairs.

I was just thinking that everyone who read last night was inspiring. Am now going to sit in front of my laptop and... Procrastinate whilst looking at random words.

The original venue, The Shooting Star was a lovely venue with a private room so I hope to appreciate it next time! Hats off to Lisa who swiftly organised another local venue. It was an informative and pleasant evening with wonderful people. I shall definitely be returning. Thanks again!

It was great to hear some really fantastic writing last night, it's such an honour to be able to spend time with great, creative, supportive people.
Also, thanks to everyone for their really valuable and insightful feedback on my work last night, I really appreciated it.

Some really excellent writing. What a pleasure to hear such diverse and high quality work. Thank you all. And well done Lisa for finding alternative venue when Shooting Star messed upthe booking! Only reason I've marked low is because it was a bit hard to hear with all the background noise.

Hi all. Apologies again for tonight's venue mix-up - won't happen again. That said, I really enjoyed the evening and I hope you all did too. Cheers! Lisa.

Hi all. Major drama with the venue. We've had to move to The Water Poet on Folgate Street. Apologies!

Hi everyone. I'm not sure if I'm in right place as there seems to be another function going on in the room! (I've already walked in on them twice, not a good look) :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
