I have a big surprise for this month. I have an acquaintance,"Jim Williams", that has an 18 car garage that houses a very special car collection, and he has consented to allow us full access.
The location is the reason I chose Turnbull as the rides destination. The cars are in Cypress. Not far enough for a proper ride, and Turnbull is the closest of our usual destinations in proximity to Cypress.
Anyway, about the collection. This fellow has an affinity for fifties cars that are the last of a model year, or body style. And has a lot of cars with as many options as were available for that year. For example, he has a 57 Bel-aire that has 42 options on it. He explained to me that back then, when they discontinued a body type, at the end of the run they took everything off the walls and threw it on the car to use the parts up. Hence his 57 with the only padded dash he, or anyone he knows, has ever seen.
He also has two Rolls Royce, the last model year Silver Cloud, and the last model year Silver Shadow.
Twenty cars in all. G.M., Ford, and Chrysler products well represented. A lot to see and enjoy.
So by now your saying, O.K., vintage and classic cars, that's cool, but what about scooters? Well, he has an 84 Yamaha Riva with a custom paint job and pin striped helmet to match, done by local legend, Tom Kelly.
It should be a full day. We'll be at Jim's by 11:00, an hour to see the collection, Turnbull by 1:00, half hour to 45 min. to wiz around the canyon, late lunch by 2:00, and back to the area by 4:00. All times approximate, as we will of coarse be on scooter time, duh!
You've noticed by now that this ride is not on our usual Sunday. That's only for this month, because the collection is not available for viewing on Sundays. Sorry if this precludes you from joining, but it can't be helped. I had to choose between moving the date, or passing on this extraordinary opportunity.
Hope you all can make it, should be fun. And yes, we will drop in on the 6740 after the canyon.
Gassed up, kickstands up, and helmets on by 10:30. RAIN CANCELS
