Space 1889:Red Sands

The time is the height of the Victorian Era in a reality slightly off to one side of our own.

Mr Edison's Aether Propeller has opened up the inner Solar System to settlers, commerce, entrepreneurs and adventurers. Mars, Venus and Mercury all have known the tread of human feet and the benefit of Benevolent British Rule.

Of course, the other players in the Great Game have their own presence in all these places, and French and German interests often clash with those of Her Majesty.

Space 1889:Red Sands is a campaign that ranges over the whole of inhabited space, from the steamy jungles of Venus to the eponymous Red Sands of Mars, the Bazaars of Egypt and the Streets of London.

Players take the part of characters in various walks of life but all united in their membership of the Explorer's Society as they struggle to overcome an insidious menace over the course of numerous adventures.

The game uses a variant of the popular and very easy-to-learn Savage Worlds system. The rules changes for Red Sands are minor and have to do with tuning the setting to that of a Victorian Steampunk milieu.

No prior experience is necessary to play. Everything needed to enjoy the game will be provided, though people may of course bring their own characters if they wish, which should be Novice level with no prior experience.

Those wishing to build a character but who don't have access to the Space 1889 book (pictured) should note the following:

  1. Some of the SW:EE edges have been slightly changed, but the list of such changes is too detailed to reproduce here.
  2. The only Arcane Edges allowed are Weird Science and Power Points (at this level)
  3. The "Noble" edge does not convey the "Rich" edge for free.
  4. Many new edges have been added specific to the Space 1889 setting, too numerous to list here, especially professional edges.
  5. There are twelve specific Knowledge skills that can be taken and which can be used in concert with other skills to increase effects. These are:
  6. Knowledge: Battle/Business/Engineering/Gunnery/History/Journalism/Law/Mechanics/Medicine/Navigation/Science/Trimsman

Ownership of the book is not mandatory but will prove of great help in tuning characters out-of-game.

If you own the book, try not to peek at the Red Sands section or you'll spoil the fun.

The 18 Years Old Rule is in effect for this game.

I have to say it is seriously fucking lame that there are only three of us for the last RPG at Ravenblood Games.

If anyone else wants to sign up for a one-off appearance I'm okay with it and it will work with the scenario.

There will be a brief recap of the game because no-one will remember what ios supposed to be going on after two months wait. Please do send me your own telling of what went down last time. Use the forum for the Red Sands game.

Wish it weren't that weekend! It looks fun, and I think I even have a Space 1889 rulebook...

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
