Longmont CycloFemme - We ride together!

CycloFemme

Invite your friends

A national movement to get more women riding bikes!

http://cyclofemme.com/  On Sunday, May 12, join a fun ride around Longmont.  We will ride the Longmont Loop, which is a relatively flat 15 mile loop that combines several of Longmont's greenway trails with bike lanes and low volume residential streets.  Along the way, you may see portions of Longmont that you haven't seen before.  At the half-way point, we will enjoy a rest stop for coffee and/or yogurt and good conversation.

While this fun ride is to encourage more women to ride bikes, men and families are also welcome and encouraged. It will be an opportunity to see how bike friendly Longmont has become and to discover new places to ride.  It will give you a chance to connect with future riding partners.

Let's all ride!

Sincere thanks to those who helped me with the flat; I did make it back ok and will remember no matter how rushed to not leave my pump in the car ;).

Do we need mt bike or would cruiser bike be enough?

    May 12, 2013

    • Buzz

The route is as flat as anything can be in Colorado. There are no hills that are either steep or long, so any type of bike should be fine. The total distance is 15+/- miles. While the pace will be slow, it will faster than the Wednesday night Cruiser Rides in Old Town, about 10 - 13mph. Ride a bike that you are comfortable with for that distance and pace.

I was just able to log in, Buzz. Jackie and I can't make it, but you guys have a GREAT ride, and stay safe.

As the ride leader, with the large number of people signed up for this, I am very concerned about rider safety. Everyone needs to follow the rules of the road, ride single file when necessary to avoid other trail users on the greenways or motorists on the roads, and keep a safe distance (3 feet) between bikes. And wear a helmet!

Are the greenways smooth enough for a road bike or should I bring the mountain bike?

It's on pavement the whole way Bob

Wednesday nights don't work for me...how about Saturdays?

As we get more into the cycling season, more and more rides will be offered. If this year is like the past couple, there will be 12 or more rides a week (2 to 3 per day) of varying degrees of difficulty so that there is something for everyone.

There are a couple of questions about the best place to buy a bike. At a professional, independent bike shop, the personnel will have the knowledge to help you select a bike for the type of riding you want to do and they will make sure you get the correct size bike along with the accessories and clothing you will need for an enjoyable ride.

Avoid department stores where it's one size fits some and no one is very knowledgeable or helpful. Also, avoid the good deals on Craigslist. A bike from Craigslist may not be the correct bike for you, or it may not be the correct size for you, or it may have parts that are about worn out or broken. Craigslist is okay ONLY if you are knowledgeable and know exactly what you want. It's never a good deal if it's the wrong bike.

Hope this helps. Contact me thru the email link on my profile if you need more info.

Thank you Buzz! Got my bike last weekend and am excited for my first ride! I do have a baby that will be riding as well in a trailer, so if there could be some safe rides we could join in on that would be great! Also have a friend in the same situation as well that would live to join!

Marie, keep checking your emails. Beginning in mid-May, Ryan Kragerud will resume his very popular Wednesday night cruiser rides through Old Town Longmont. They are very family friendly.

If men and families are invited, how about pets? They count as family for me :)
I'm working on teaching my Beagle Grunt to enjoy bike rides riding in an Instep trailer. Jackjack the Ancient Jack Russell Terrier rides along just fine (honestly I'm not sure exactly how well he can see anymore, but he loves car rides and doesn't object to a bike ride)
