Temescal Canyon Hike and climbing around on the Skull Rocks and caves

I saw that Bob cancelled this hike. But I'll be in town so I decided to bring it back to life, with a little more fun stuff.

3 HOURS OF HIKING

1/2 HOUR OR SO OF PLAY TIME ON THE ROCKS (SO TOTAL HIKE IS 3 1/2 HOURS OR SO)

ROCK EXPLORING IS OPTIONAL! YOU CAN JUST SIT ON TOP OF THE ROCKS AND ENJOY THE VIEW WHILE I MAKE A MONKEY OUT OF MYSELF!

OPTIONAL DINNER AFTERWARD AT THE REEL INN LOCATED AT TOPANGA CANYON BLVD AND PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY

PARKING:

Do NOT meet at Gelsons market!  Just park on Sunset, Temescal Canyon, or some residential side-streets.  Just watch out for signage. If you park in the Temescal park's parking lots, you have to PAY. Also watch out for the video-enforced stop signs!!

WHERE TO MEET:

Meet at northwest corner of Temescal Canyon and Sunset Blvd--there is a BIG BROWN TEMESCAL CANYON PARK SIGN THERE!

We will walk up the canyon where it starts (about 500 feet uphill from Sunset Blvd., trail starts at the far west end of the parking lot closest to Sunset Blvd.)

We will then pass some rest rooms and water fountains which we will stop at in case anyone needs to .......you know.

This will be approximately a 4 mile hike (from Sunset Blvd to Sunset Blvd). about 1000 feet or considered maybe a level 3-4 (?) hike.

This is a moderately difficult hike.  Although I will say that even though challenging, people who are complete beginners still found it very enjoyable, yet challenging.

We will take the Sunset trail that basically goes from the road up to the main trail.

This will be the main Temescal Ridge and canyon loop starting from the canyon side and then going down the ridge side.

As hikers, its good to do some daily knee stretches/exercises.  Just a short time on the stationary bike/elliptical, etc. is good to keep your knees in full motion.

Bring water, snacks, good shoes, and just in case . . . . a headlamp if you have one, although you most likely will not need it.
