O.C. Beach Bike Ride
Let's roll and do fun bike ride from Pine Ave Pier to Balboa Island. On this 52-mile fun bike ride we'll see several of the O.C. beach communities from a different perspective, enjoy some conversations, catch some sun rays, and see, & hear the ocean as we pedal along. Plus being outdoors just feels great!
It's a coastal ride and the route runs through various beach communities: Long Beach Shoreline, Belmont Shore, Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Balboa Island, and Newport Beach.
After riding through Balboa Island we'll take a pleasant ferry ride across to Newport Beach before rolling back toward Pine Ave Pier. The ride will take around 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 hours.
This should not be your first ride. Please read all the details.
Because of the 52-miles it's an Advance ride and the route does not have a shorter ride option. This route is mostly on the bike paths and several sections are on bike friendly streets. There will be some small hills. The group will maintain an average speed of 10 to 12 mph. Riders should be comfortable riding along cars and know the bicycle street rules. If you're a beginner to intermediate rider, or do not feel comfortable riding on streets, join us on a weekday ride.
Weekday rides: Thursday evenings, 19mi to 25mi, & usually has a shorter ride option 5mi to 10mi. Those rides are good for figuring out your riding level & for asking bike/ride questions.
The Plan: Pine Ave Pier to Balboa Island,52-miles, out-&-back, and average 10 to 12 mph.We won't set any speed records and riders in the mood for a little extra pedal-power are encouraged to do sprints along the route. The route will mainly be on bike paths, bike lanes and along bike friendly streets. Late lunch will be at Pine Ave Pier so pack plenty of snacks. Breaks/quick regroups TBD; there are plenty of bathrooms along the route.
After we reach Balboa Island we'll take the ferry ($1.25 fee) to Newport Beach. We'll take a break, eat some snacks, and then roll back towards Pine Ave Pier. At the Pier there are a few places to eat lunch (optional) or you can pack a lunch, sit under a tree, and enjoy the marina view.
IMPORTANT: a Metro card is required for the train rides. It cost $5.00 for the Metro Day Pass and if you don't already have a Metro card it's an additional $1.50.
If your name is on the "I'm Going" list & you cannot make it please change status to "Not Attending". Thank you in advance.
