It's back to school time for the LADA!  We are fortunate that one of our members, Melissa Aaron a Professor at Cal Poly Pomona will be teaching her first Harry Potter literature course this fall and has agreed to give us a lecture of the literary significance of the HP series for the college student and a Q&A session afterwards.  For those LADA members up to it, we will be going to Grub Restaurant after the event (please bring cash).

Here is the Professor's bio:

Melissa D. Aaron is a Professor in the Dept. of English and Foreign Languages at Cal Poly Pomona.  She received her Ph.D from UW-Madison in Renaissance dramatic literature. Her book  Global Economics: An institutional economic history of the Chamberlain's/King's Men and their plays, 1599- 1642, was published by University of Delaware Press in 2005. Her research is on Shakespeare and economics and all-women Shakespeare companies.  In the Harry Potter fandom, Professor Aaron has developed a specialty in werewolves, as “Moonyprof.” She represented Professor Lupin at the  Hogwart’s Best: Teacher of the Year panel at  LUMOS in 2006, and has given several papers on Lupin and werewolves: “’Said He Was a Wolf: Professor Lupin meets the Duchess of Malfi,”  The Witching Hour, 2005; “New Moon, Full Moon, Wolfsbane Potion and Fursploding Boys:  werewolves in the  Harry Potter books and the  Twilight saga,”  Azkatraz, 2009; and “My, what big eyes you have: Lupin, Greyback, and the modern werewolf revival,”  Infinitus, 2010.

Which place do you prefer? Jess brings up a good poing that there will be a band at the Cat & Fiddle so it will be a bit loud if we choose that venue. I am still tallying votes so cast yours!

As a reminder, please come FULLY dressed in your Hogwarts attire. Our group will need to stay a little after the lecture so the cameraman can get some footage of us "talking" about HP stuff (b-roll). Please also bring your wands and one other favorite HP memorabilia. The crew will be interviewing a couple of us (producer to choose day of event) and this will air in Korea and in the US on KBS so by attending this event, you are acknowledging you could end up on TV.

For those that plan on having dinner after the lecture please email me at [masked] by end of day tomorrow so I can make a reservation. We have two choices for dinner, The Cat & The Fiddle on Sunset ($6 valet parking only and may be crowded due to a band playing there this Sunday) or go back to Grub on Seward. Please email me which restaurant you prefer (Cat & Fiddle or Grub) and how many in your party. Dinner resevations will be at 7pm.
