The event Southern California has been eagerly awaiting is finally here: the Free Concerts 6 Year Anniversary Party! At this soiree we guarantee that you will dance, drink and chat. We have made special arrangements with Chef Jet Tila's new hotspot, The Charleston, for a night you will not soon forget. Making a special appearance will be The Pac Men (formerly 80s Rewind), one of the best 80s bands on the West Coast. Whether you are new in town, or been here a while, you will make plenty of new friends at this party--and see old ones too.
The Pac Men are Southern California’s best 80s cover band. They perform all 80s music including dance, rock, pop, new wave, and R&B. It’s all about BIG SONGS, BIG HAIR, and BIG FUN. Their performance consists of high-energy hit songs, funny sketches, light/laser show, and a lot of glitter and laughter!
The Charleston is a Santa Monica restaurant and gastrolounge featuring live entertainment and Chef Jet Tila’s take on American comfort food expressed in a menu of shared plates. The multi-faceted venue is set in a lounge-style space with distinct 1930’s décor. Valet and street parking. Attire is trendy; 21 and over. Dinner reservations (www.charlestonla.com). Happy Hour 5-7 except for us it has been extended to 8! (menu).
ABOUT LOS ANGELES FREE CONCERTS
LAFC was founded by Rolando Marin in April of 2007 and has almost 9,500 members, making it "the largest live music meetup group in the world." In an interview with A.O. Lionel for the 6 Year Anniversary, Rolando had this to say about the early days of LAFC:
It was right after a divorce that I was searching for support groups and came across Meetup. I attended my first meetup and it was horrible...a divorce support group at a bar with no music and just a bunch of Debbie Downers. I decided then that I'd start something with life, music and no charge. I always attended the free concerts at California Plaza so naturally I went in that direction. Our first Meetup was at LACMA, an outdoor salsa concert with wine and appetizers. It was at hit and from there it just grew more and more. We've seen bands with the tiniest of followings to mega stars like Depeche Mode, from one person on a violin to full orchestra ensembles, from KC & the Sunshine Band to DJ Jason Bentley...just a ton of amazing local and international talent. Six years later I guess you can say I am not surprised at how much its grown. We are an amazing group of people (Organizers, Event Coordinators & Attendees). I'm so thankful that we exist.
