Symphony in the Glen presents "Touches of Sweet Harmony"

Symphony In The Glen joins forces with the exciting Independent Shakespeare Company (ISC) to present “Touches of Sweet Harmony”, a unique pairing of the Bard’s immortal words with music from the greatest classical composers. There will be a Picnic Meet & Greet before the concert.

This magical evening features an inspired pairing of Shakespeare’s words with the music of Prokofiev, Resphighi, Faure, Sibelius, Stravinski, Holst, Shostakovich, Parry and Sir William Walton; with selections read by ISC members Thomas Ehas, Joseph Culliton and Claudia de Vasco.

Symphony in the Glen, led by Maestro Arthir B. Rubinstein, has performed landmark concerts in Griffith Park since 1994. Since 1994, over 60,000 Angelenos have come to hear Symphony In The Glen perform more than 200 classical works during 42 free concerts.

PICNIC MEET & GREET

The best part of attending a concert in the park is the picnic. This is where you'll make new friends and say "Hi" to old ones. A great way to meet someone is to offer them something! So... bring something to share! Either a refreshing beverage or some finger eats such as charcuterie, salumi, cheeses, fresh produce such as grapes, dried fruits such as dates or nuts, olives, bread--foods that are easy to eat without utensils.

Lovely event in a beautiful venue - friendly folks made the evening particularly pleasant!

Lionel you always make people feel welcome - the best host! I had to leave early but enjoyed my time there and met Anat and Eddie and some other great folks, loved the setting and the whole concept. FYI in a venue that is easily confusing to attendees, perhaps a more vigilant attention to the comments made by lost souls on this page or a contact phone number... Kudos tho !

Dido...Was a cool challenge with lots of squirrels to see on the path to concert. Good job those involved putting info. Wonderful day.

Attended with my family but wish you had allowed children with your group because I was looking forward to meeting new people. Had fun anyway so thanks for posting the concert info.

    September 7, 2013

    • Lionel

Yeah. I used to have kids at my events. While it isn't promoted, this group is singles oriented, and kids throw off the vibe. You know, flirting, drinking, language, etc.

OSS will be there also. Sounds like a great night !

Oh. We could've done a joint event. Fyi for outdoor concerts people should arrive at least a hour before curtain.

Right at the top of my list for best LAFC performances so far! Excellent orchestra. Lovely musical selections thoughtfully paired with snippets of text from Shakespeare.

Ok I parked at the carousel, then walked along the road where the carousel was on my right and down from the parking lot. I walked along that road to the end (there is more parking there), wales thru the barrier and the sign for the concert was there. Walk a little up the hill to the old zoo and TaDa !!!!! There it is! Good luck guys!

Dresden gets pretty packed & The Roosevelt can get pricy. Red Lion is awesome, There's also Ye Rustic Inn nearby (I'm such a sucker for a dive)

Such a wonderful event. I would live ti be there. It's mh birthday weekend, and unfortunately my car has broken down with a worn transmission. The bus ride is two hours in this heat, and I am not sure how ti get home afterwards. Enjoy everyone ~ sounds so lovely. Congrats Lionel ~ you've done it again! Hardy

Hi Everyone! Where are we suppose to park?

    September 6, 2013

    • Kristen S.

There are a couple parking lots a bit down the hill by the Carousel, and along-the-road parking closer to the Old Zoo.

      September 7, 2013

Is the 18+ your rules or The Glen's rules? I'd like to go and take my kid with me. Thanks.

Hi Gab. I believe that was established so all the meet-up-ers are all on the same page.

Can't wait to meet everyone today! I'll be there with a large blanket and a low chair. Hopefully I'll have time to grab a red balloon or 2 so you can find me, but the bright PINK hair is a bit of a giveaway anyway. ^_^
