The iconic Walt Disney Hall is celebrating its 10th Anniversary and Los Angeles Free Concerts invites you to join in the festivities at this neighborhood concert taking place at Wilshire United Methodist Church. The LA Philharmonic will be performing Prokofiev's beloved children's story Peter and the Wolf. Julie Andrews will narrate and Las Cafeteras will make a guest appearance. Also on the program is the overture from The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart.

When it opened ten years ago, in October 2003, Walt Disney Concert Hall was immediately acclaimed for its architecture and its acoustics. In this remarkable new space, with the opportunity to expand its performing and presenting activities, the Los Angeles Philharmonic entered a new era of excellence, and shows no signs of stopping.

PROGRAM

Mozart: The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) Overture

Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf

Thank you so much for putting this together! The concert was great and the other members I sat with wonderful! I had to stop home for a short bit afterwards and then went to Novel but everyone was gone by the time I got there (so I drank with the football "dudes! - lol)

Excellent. I took my parents and they thoroughly enjoyed it! The LA Philharmonic was great and my parents liked hearing Julie Andrews narrate.

What an exceptional performance by the LA Phil last night. They really are some of the Best at what they do. Looking forward to visiting Disney Concert Hall in the near future. And what a genuine delight to have Julie Andrews narrate. A night to remember.

I'd like to thank Joanne for doing a fabulous job hosting tonight. She made it possible for people to actually "meetup." Hosting is important: think about that next time I ask you "Can you hold the Meetup sign..."

    September 27, 2013

    • Lionel

And of course our thanks to Tom and Erica.

It was a great concert. It was nice seeing a group from East LA playing with the LA Phil. They must have set that up as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. I enjoyed Peter and the wolf so much my cheeks hurt from smiling. I met a bunch of nice people tonight.

We have a reservation at Novel Cafe for 8:30 for the AFTER PARTY!!!!! Just ask for LIONEL/MEETUP at the front. (I won't be there)

    September 26, 2013

  • Joanne

I will be there around 5:00 with one of the Meetup signs. I will also have red little tags that say "Meetup" to wear or hold onto while in line. If you see one of the tags then you can Practice Date in line. The tag also has the address of Novel Cafe where we can meet after the concert for more PD. I have never been to the cafe. Will there be enough room for us?

    See you tonight!

    September 26, 2013

    • Kate

Umm...practice date? Is this a singles event? I just wanted to go hear some awesome music.

      1 · September 26, 2013

    • Lionel

      Plenty of room.

      September 26, 2013

  • Kate

There are about 5 of us here in line already. We have been told in no uncertain terms..."you cannot save seats, parking spots or places in line"

    September 26, 2013

    • Lionel

You have the option of giving up your place in line, and joining the main group further back. This is a "meetup" group, not a "let's get great spots in line" group.

      September 26, 2013

  • Nipun N.

What time would you think would be a good time to come to catch some good seats? :) also.. anyone coming from hollywood area offering a ride? :)

    September 26, 2013

Is this some sort of dating thing? This is my first time on this sight but I love the kind of music

I can't imagine what the parking will be like for this, but I'm willing to give it a try for great music!

    September 24, 2013

This is so typical L.A. - So much attention and hoopla given to the Walt Disney Hall (a piece of real estate), and so little attention given to the music (art).

    1 · September 15, 2013

    • Larry T

Ronnie, my comments had nothing to do with you. I think you misunderstood my point completely (although I do understand your concerns and agenda). My point is this is being promoted as the birthday of the "Disney Hall". I think it would be more appropriate to celebrate the L.A. Philharmonics 10th anniversary of performing at the Disney Hall. I'm saying what is important is the music that goes on inside the Disney Hall - and not the structure itself. But what to hey, this is L.A., what's important is having a nice car - not the person driving the car.

      September 24, 2013

  • Sinda

There aren't tickets right? I did RSVP, but I can't remember if we needed tickets. Is it just on a first come first servce basis?

      No tickets.

      September 23, 2013

ATTENTION: due to overwhelming response, well just Kate actually, we'll be heading over to NOVEL CAFE immediately following the concert for cocktails and bites. Novel is a short drive from Wilshire United and is at 3760 Wilshire Blvd. See, I told you it was close.
