The Santa Monica Symphony performs Borodin's Polovestian Dances from the opera Prince Igor and other selections.  The Los Angeles Philharmonic's Guido Lamell will conduct. After the concert we're having one of our famous Meet & Greets at the Viceroy Hotel, a short walk from the auditorium. It's ok to come by yourself--you won't be by yourself for long.

The Santa Monica Symphony has been a major cultural asset for the Westside community since its debut in 1945 that attracts music lovers from all parts of the greater Los Angeles area. Its repertoire of classical and contemporary music provides well-rounded programs of wide appeal. LAFC member Geoffrey Maingart is a violinist with the orchestra.

For those who could not locate the group, why don't you print out your very own Meetup sign? .. and carry it with you to the event. You can keep it in your pocket or purse and just bring it out and hold it up if you cannot locate the others. ..or if you arrive late, you can display it at intermission..
Here's a link to the sign file on my white-water website:

What a great performance! Heidi really knows how to play that fiddle! I hope every attendee dropped a donation in the box. ... So glad I came up from OC, even in spite of the parking ticket!.... unfortunately, i did not print out the meetup page, and after the show I entered 1819 Ocean Park Blvd instead of Ocean Ave in my GPS, so i never found the Viceroy. Hope to see you again....

The Santa Monica Symphony was even better tonight! The romantic, Russian music flowed from Barnum Hall into our moonlight-filled glass like whispered conversation in the hush of a warm night. I look forward to the glow of another poolside night and more delightful camaraderie.

I checked out the bus website to be sure that my bus was running to go tonight and it said that it was running as usual, but I went out to catch the bus and waited a long time and it didn't come, so I can't come tonight. Have a good time.

Beautiful verse from "Stranger in Paradise":

    Take my hand
    I'm a stranger in paradise
    All lost in a wonderland
    A stranger in paradise
    If I stand starry-eyed
    That's the danger in paradise
For mortals who stand beside an angel like you.

POLOVETSIAN DANCES has been added to this concert. This is an amazing piece of music and one of my top 5 favorite classical works. Dances is sensual, exotic, lush and sweeping. You may be familiar with the melody from the song "Stranger in Paradise." This music will transport you to another place, another time.

I will be attending and will co-host with Diane.

I love love love the Santa Monica Symphony and would welcome holding a sign if needed. Their guest pianist was absolutely exhilarating last event at Rhapsody in Blue. I think that was the same symphony. I could be wrong. :)

I won't be able to make the meet and greet after a full week. Need that rest before a fantastic Monday morning arises. Looking forward to the concert.

    February 11, 2014

  • STUART

No, I wanta hold the sign!! I hope I can make it. I'll have to RSVP last minute. If I can't go I'll hold up a sign at home, maybe on the roof.

    1 · February 10, 2014

    • Lionel

Ok. That was funny. But seriously, the most important person in LA Free Concerts is the sign-holder. Certainly not me. I just send emails and kick out flakes lol. Without the signholder there is no "meet up", no community, no LAFC as we know it. The highest honor at LAFC is "ELITE" meaning you've held the sign 3 times. Out of 14200+ members there are fewer than 15 ELITES.

      February 11, 2014

  • Diane

    Lionel,
Let me know at what time you want me to arrive to hold the sign.

I'll hold the sign if you need me to do so.
