The LA Free Concerts Krewe starts Carnival Season with The Gumbo Brothers--bringing you New Orleans style ass-shakin' funk. "Love these guys. I first saw Gumbo Bros last year at the Farmer's Market Mardi Gras. They play the N'awlins funk I grew up with. There isn't hardly enough room to Second Line at the Tavern--but that doesn't mean I won't try! Will they play 'When the Saints Go Marchin' in'? You bet your crawdads they will!" --Lionel. 21 and over.
Dedicated to musicianship and exploring the traditions of funk, soul, jazz and r&b, The Gumbo Brothers have a wide appeal and an electrifying live show. With several shows behind them including notable appearances at the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco and The House of Blues, this Venice-based band is bringing their infectious, booty movin' bayou grooves to swamp-funk fans throughout the southland and beyond. The band's debut cd, "Funky Freedom," was released in 2007. According to CDBaby, "This collection of swampy funk is deep in the pocket, right where it should be. The grooves are thick, the vocals are sparse and always add texture to the interplay between the musicians, and the vibes never get bogged down...The Gumbo Brothers say they're 'going to hit you with some ass-shakin' funk!' They got that right. Prepare yourself."
