Mark Winkler and Cheryl Bentyne at LACMA

Grammy winner Cheryl Bentyne, of the Manhattan Transfer,  and critically acclaimed singer Mark Winkler take the stage at the LACMA Courtyard for a phenonemal night of jazz under the stars. Feel free to bring snacks for yourself and/or to share at this even.! After the concert be sure to join us at the Kibitz Room for late night eats, cheap cocktails and the best after party in L.A.! It's Ok to come by yourself--you won't be by yourself for long.

Award-winning and critically acclaimed jazz vocalist/lyricist Mark Winkler pairs up with multi-Grammy Award–winning vocalist Cheryl Bentyne, a member of the Manhattan Transfer, to form a dynamic duo that examines the “West Coast Cool" jazz scene of the 1950s. Together and separately they perform songs by Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker, Julie London and Bobby Troup (to name a few). Critical Jazz writes that Winkler and Bentyne are “One of the few male/female duets in vocal jazz that finds both participants working on equal footing."

Jazz at LACMA features the art of jazz as practiced by leading Southern California artists. Celebrating over twenty years at LACMA, the program continues to be one of the museum’s most recognizable offerings. Jazz at LACMA is a celebration of L.A.’s finest jazz musicians and has featured such legends as Wayne Shorter, John Clayton, Kenny Burrell, Les McCann, Billy Childs, Arturo Sandoval, Cannonball-Coltrane Project, and Ernie Watts. Over 42,000 visitors attend the program annually from April through November.

HOW TO FIND THE GROUP

We will be arriving early and saving the last 3 rows of seats in the main seating area, on the right side facing the stage. Late comers will be able to stand and mingle and immediately behind our area.

AFTER PARTY AT KIBITZ ROOM

It is a particularly congenial haven for music, featuring a full bar and small stage. Every evening the Kibitz Room is jamming with local bands and has become something of a Los Angeles scene. The Kibitz Room is adjacent to Canters, a short drive from LACMA, at 419 N. Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles.

• Please bring wine and snacks to share. Note: officially LACMA prohibits outside alcohol however based on experience this is not enforced.

• Attire: trendy casual. Dress warm, the courtyard can get chilly at this outdoor event.

• 21 and over

• Parking in lot $10. Some street parking.

I want to thank the members who saved seats. At any public venue, that's a huge accomplishment. Bravo to Sorina, Kim and Francis. You ladies are why we had seats. And thanks to the nice ladies who brought snacks to share. Very nice Friday. :)

      April 25, 2014

  • Ace

Some of you had to work later or are encountering a few obstacles like egregious traffic. If so, stay calm and join us when you can. Remember, last three rows and standing room immediately behind.

    April 25, 2014

  • Ace

I know Sorina and Daniel are there. Anyone else?

    April 25, 2014

  • Ace

The actual concert begins at 6pm. And there is one intermission. Although our group has planned to occupy the last three rows, concertgoers have a lot of freedom to stand and sit where they wish.

  • Rose

Sorry, I can't make it on time this time. Have fun everyone. I will see you soon.

Hi Rose: it's going to be a great show. No worries if you can't arrive by 5:30pm. Show up when you can. It's set up so folks can come and go as they wish.

      1 · April 21, 2014

    • Lionel

If you can arrive by 4:30 that would be most appreciated. We'll be saving the last 3 rows of the section on the right hand side (facing the stage). Thanks!

LACMA official policy is no outside alcohol. They can, if they wish, enforce that or be more permissive and look away.

    April 14, 2014

    • Diane

      same here.

      April 19, 2014

    • Ace

As I posted, it's their policy and they enforce it as they desire. Just wanted to be clear. I personally don't care what anyone brings to eat or drink. I think it's set up that way for insurance readons because LACMA is a non-profit organization funded by L.A. County.

I've be going at these jazz concerts for years! Excited to be there with the group and not alone.

LACMA galleries are open and admission is FREE to all LA county residents M-F 3pm to closing. If you get there early, take some time to explore or revisit a favorite.

I have been waiting all winter for these free concerts to start at the LACMA on Fridays! I live in walking distance, see you all there.

The Ray & Stark Bar at LACMA sells lots of interesting cocktails and wine and dinner items, too. You can also bring your own food and non alcoholic items.
