Saturday's off the 405 - getty center, Free fun Music

One of the best parts of an L.A. summer is heading up the hill to The Getty Museum for a night of free, fun music and a dance floor full of diverse people shaking it steps away from an incredible art collection.

With May comes the return of Summers Off the 405, and the series kicks off with the Dum Dum Girls and a DJ set from Neil Schield of Origami Vinyl (LAist Interview).

@ Veronica, I see there are more Saturdays off the 405 coming up, I'd like to help with communication and planning, let me know if you'll be hosting the next one, and I will gladly help out! I could not attend this last one, but I will prioritize the future 405 meetups.

"glow bracelets" were used at one meetup I went to, and another had a white balloon to identify the meeting location. Just a suggestion.... :-)

It was disappointing. The concert started over an hour and half late and the music was not worth waiting for in my opinion.

However, the setting was lovely - the Getty was well-organized as usual and pleasant to be in during the evening. I did not know how to find other Meetup members there.

I have to say it was a good concert but I really think we need to find a better way for people to connect and find one another --- as this was my first time attending an event with this meetup I did not know who was with the group...i could not make it before 5pm as suggested unfortunately. Perhaps elect or someone take the responsibility of being the social convenor? Just a suggestion...

Her moving and deeply personal songs are rare for this style of music and surely gives the Dum Dum Girls its uniqueness and emotional impact. Their signature blend of the girl-gang eyeliner punk of the Shangri-Las, the trashy propulsion of the Cramps, and the moody atmospherics of Mazzy Star has won over a world of fans during their massively successful headline tours. All that time on the road has molded Dum Dum Girls into a very formidable rock-roll band, giving the music an undeniable force.

Kicking off the 2012 Saturdays Off the 405 series is Dum Dum Girls, a fuzzed-out pop band fronted by gifted songwriter Dee Dee. "I've always wanted to be in a loud rock-and-roll band and still maintain some feminine sound," says Dee Dee.

Veronica, thanks for organizing this. Let everyone know they should arrive before 5 and leave before 9...or spend a few hours getting into and out of the GC. I speak from experience...timing is everything at a Getty concert. Great venue, but it'll be a zoo...I'd recommend staking out some space early across from the stage around the rectangular water pools, with Meetup signs. Looking forward to it,

    Brian

Parking $10 after 5. Dim Dums Do Vintage music. Witticisms Fr. NBC Los Angeles: Should we all stop collectively meowing about the 405?

We think yes. Granted -- granted -- there are times when the meowing is warranted. (coughFridayat6:05pmcough). But it helps tons of people get around. It helps us get to the airport. We use it when we feel 5 fatigue. Getty Center's annual evening concert series. It's preparing to kick off again on Saturday, May 19 with the Dum Dum Girls, and if you're not cur

One more question. Does the concert start at 6 or do we look at the art first?

Hi, what about parking? You have to reserve a space, correct? Please let me know. Thanks!

Other groups have met at the drink stands, prior to when the music starts. Usually there is a Meet-Up sign. There might be other groups going to this too. These events can get crowded.
