Raw Food Potluck & Fermenting Demo with Jackie V - BYO!

Come join us in June and learn how to preserve your veggies with fermentation!

From Jackie, this month's presenter:

----------------------

"If you want, you can bring some cut up veggies and a quart mason jar with a lid to June's potluck.

I will demonstrate how to start this fermenting process, and you will have a jar of fermenting goodness to take home with you and eat in a few days! So, so easy and I look forward to it!

Just about any veggies are okay to do, but I've heard that red peppers get slimy, so you might want to skip those this time!

I'm going to try them later and will let you know how it goes! Right now, I'm just enjoying eating them raw! :)"  - Jackie

---------------------

Fermented foods help create a good bacterial balance in your gut and taste great, too!

Bring your own place setting to cut down on waste and join with "like minds" in a supportive environment.

NOTE:  This group is NOT dogmatic about being 100% raw, vegan, or vegetarian.  EVERYONE is welcome to explore the power and taste of these anti inflammatory, age reversing foods!

Here is an article I found on red peppers! I'm going to have to try this one! http://www.picklemetoo.com/2012/10/04/italian-style-pepperonicini-peppers/

Here is another great article about fermentation! The Standard American Diet (SAD) is killing us and our children. It is articles like this one that is making my switch to this type of eating easier! I've read that the jar shown in this article is one of the best kind for fermentation. I meant to say that the other night, but time just got away from us! http://www.dailymail....

Don't forget to mark todays date on the outside of your jar so you can remember what day we did them. Burp your jars daily and if after 4 days your veggies are fermented enough for you, let them go another day. Just check them every day after that so you can tell if they are done enough for you! Also, if your brine is cloudy, that's okay! It's supposed to be! That means it's working! Also, the brine water, don't throw it out! It's the new gatorade! Just don't drink a lot of it at once. It's full of good stuff! Just drink an ounce or so at a time! It's so simple! There are a lot of videos on you tube. I had a great time and as always, the food was amazing!

A very informative meeting!... I've wanted instructions on making fermented foods at home for a long time. And the food tonight, as always, was creative and delicious!! I always come away with new ideas for more ways to fix healthy, nutritious dishes.

Hi all, I just wanted to send out a quick msg because a friend of mine has been working hard to start an heirloom plant business and has an abundance of plant left over that need to find a home FAST, so they are willing to let go of them for a free-will donation or nothing at all just to find them homes and get them in the ground...
They have squash, cucumbers, water melon, tomatoes and I'm sure a few more items... if you're interested, let me know ASAP and I'll hook you up. r :-)

Hello. I just joined and wanted to know at this demo meeting, do we need to bring food for a potluck? I am still learning about this way of eating so, what would you suggest? Thanks.

    May 27, 2013

    • Jackie V.

Welcome, Alissa! We do bring a dish to share at the potluck that is raw, and plant-based! It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just what you are comfortable with doing at this point! I look forward to meeting you in person!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
