Three great topics tonight (and something for everyone!):
Command Line Magic - Barton will give us a few tricks for using the command line effectively: pipes, named pipes, and process substitution. Here's what got the topic started: http://www.hollenback.net/NamedPipesInBash
OpenNMS - Deven will tell us about Open Network Management System (http://www.opennms.org/), must-know stuff if you use networks (which, you may have noticed, you are doing right now).
usNIC (userspace NIC) - Jeff will be telling us about how to get ultra low latency ethernet communications by bypassing the operating system. This will be a technical presentation that will look at the low-level operations involved in ethernet communications. (Jeff develops open source software (OpenNMI) for Cisco, and it looks like usNIC will soon be part of OpenNMI.) You can get a glimpse of what he'll be talking about by skipping 20 pages (the marketing hype) into this slideshow: http://www.slideshare.net/slideshow/embed_code/28044275#
Free OPA Pizza - treat yourself to some free Papa John's pizza, compliments of the Open Pizza Alliance (in exchange for a brief solicitation for your membership and support).
All things Linux. All things Open. Come and meet your fellow geeks. Discuss open source, open data, transparency, security, encryption, intellectual property, spontaneous organization, erlang, pizza, etc.
