LGC Newsletter and Local Gaming

Hello fellow gamers!

There has been a lot of new gaming going on in the Louisville area lately, which is something that is awesome to see.  There are a lot of things coming up soon that I wanted the community at large to be aware of so they can prepare.  Beware a wall of text will follow...

First there has been a pretty large influx of people looking to play DnD 3.5 and DnD 4e.  What is needed more than anything else is Dungeon Masters to run and/or organize these events.  With that in mind I will be running a series of "How to DM" seminars.  I've done these seminars at Origins and Gencon before and I will have some prizes to hand out (and they will be free to attend).  The seminars are designed to be for all experience levels, however the focus will go to the DMs who are brand new.  I've been DMing for more than a decade and I try to go to these "How to" style seminars as often as possible because I always walk away with something to pillage to use in my own games.  The seminars will be posted on the LGC main page as soon as I am able to organize my work schedule and see what dates and times work best for running the seminars.  Tentatively the first one will be on my first available Saturday or Sunday Afternoon (the weekend of the 15th-16th).  If you are interested please keep posted.

The second thing on the agenda is for players who have given me their availability for games during one of the recent meetups.  I have not forgotten you, however we do not have enough DMs to go around.  If anyone is interested in running a game of 3.5, Pathfinder or 4th edition let me know what days/times you are available and I can have a whole group beating down your door tomorrow.  If you are interested in more old-school games I would recommend giving the guys at Louisvillednd.com a look.  The ACKS system has many things in common with older forms of DnD and they are always happy to have new players.

The third thing to address is that I am going to be cleaning the meetup site here shortly.  I have no problems with people posting what they want to do, and when they want to do it (that is why the site is here!) however we need to have the meetups happen or they need to go away.  It can be very confusing for new players to see very old meetups that may or may not have happened sitting on the front page.  Things like advertisements for games with no start times, advertisements for games on other sites and calls for seeing who is interested either need to have a defined purpose, time and place or they need to be things on our forums.  As such I will be removing things from the front page and will not be pushing announcements through for games that do not have a date/time and description.  Not having a specific location is perfectly fine and having a flexible date and time are also perfectly acceptable.  I just want to get out of the habit of having games being posted and then never going anywhere.

Our fourth major thing is a call out to whomever is interested in going to conventions.  I know a lot of people have not had opportunities to go to different conventions and going with me and the LGC makes it much more economically friendly.  My two major conventions that I need people for this year are Origins (June 11th-15th in Columbus OH) and Gencon (August 14th-17th in Indianapolis IN).  This year Origins is going to be a "Celebration in DnD" meaning that I will need DMs of all editions from BECMI to Next to AD&D to 4th.  Depending on how much you want to volunteer you can get a lot of perks from these conventions.  The first level of volunteering gets you free entrance into the con, the second level with complimentary hotel stays.  If you are interested in running games or volunteering in other capacities to get your perks please send me an email to let me know what convention you are interested in and what you would prefer to be doing.  Please email me off-list at [address removed]

I look forward to another great year with the LGC and hope everyone can find the game of their dreams to play for years to come.
