NOTE: THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE THAT IT MAY BE TOO MUDDY TO HIKE WITHOUT DAMAGING THE TRAILS. IF THAT'S THE CASE WE WILL WALK THE SCENIC LOOP (ROAD) FOR TWO OR THREE LAPS.
***SIGN UP ON THE WAITING LIST. ***
I WILL MOVE ANYONE WHO HAS COMPLETED ONE LAP OF SILTSTONE / PURPLE HEART COURSE IN UNDER 2 HOURS BY THE TIME OF THE EVENT OVER TO THE "YES" LIST.
Hiking for Health CHALLENGE

This is the first in a series of six progressive CHALLENGE EVENTS designed to challenge all of you who have been working toward a healthier body during the Hiking for Health series.
1. Everyone who has completed a Level 2 or higher event is welcome to join us! Yes RSVP's from those who have not completed a Level 2 or higher event will be evaluated on a case by case basis based on previous hiking experience and fitness level.
2. For more information about the Hiking for Health Series, click HERE!
3. For a description of "levels" and how to find your level click HERE.
4. For a list of STRETCH GOAL events click HERE. Pick a milestone event you want to attend and start working toward your goal! We will give you all the help you want.

* Difficulty level: Moderate (Level 2 or higher)
* Distance and pace: 6 miles, 2.5-3 mph

* Regrouping: This is a Level 2 event so we will stop at the tops of hills but we will push to keep close to a 3 mph pace.
* What to Bring: Comfortable shoes, water
* Special considerations: Its possible that the trail may be muddy in places. If its too muddy the event will be cancelled.
* Route: - Please click HERE and print this map and bring it with you.
Thanks for coming out everyone. We were blessed with a beautiful day and the trails were in such good shape. I couldn't believe it.

Hi Tony, I got cold and I really need to rest at home tomorrow. I'm so sorry to miss this hike, and I'm looking forward for the next one! Enrico
March 8
I was able to adjust my travel and be back in time to make event so I am still in. Thanks Tony for RSVP guidance.

Hey Tony, I am going to sign up for this on waiting list in the hopes you move it to another time because I want to do Bernheim too that day, which is impossible. (Thanks you guys for coordinating..NOT!) Olmstead strongly encourages us to stay off the trails when they are muddy so I try and respect that. Any chance you would consider moving these Cherokee Trail hikes to a Sunday? Selfishly 20 miles closer to my house than JMF.
February 27
Looks like Cherokee might be too wet this Saturday if we get all the rain they are calling for so this event may be postponed for one week. We'll see. I'll update it by Friday afternoon if anything changes.
February 25
Turns out I will now be able to attend. Please remove me so a stand by can join.
Thanks

Just a reminder, this is a Hiking for Health special event. If you haven't already done so, you need to start working toward completing a Level 2 hike to qualify to attend this one. ANYONE WHO HAS HIKED THE SILTSTONE / PURPLE HEART 4.5 MILE COURSE IN UNDER TWO HOURS IN THE PAST YEAR QUALIFIES. You can hike with Chris Kurth (Tues, Thurs, Saturday), with me (some Saturdays) or with a friend, but you will have to complete that course in under two hours to qualify to attend this hike. I'll modify RVSP's a few days before the event as needed. Please feel free to contact me or Chris Kurth if you would like help reaching that goal!
February 18
If anyone wants to know how to prequalify for this hike, or any of the HfH STRETCH GOAL EVENTS, feel free to shoot me an email by clicking on my picture to the left then clicking on "Email". Its pretty easy to work up to a Level 2 pace if you walk or hike a couple times per week between now and this event. I'm willing to help anyone who wants help. Just ask!
Just for a reference... because of the hills, a 3 mph pace on the Cherokee trails is equivalent to a 4-4.5 mph (13 to 15 min/mile) on flat ground.
Let me know how I can help you all get ready for this event!!
