Cherokee park bike ride (4:30) , hike 6:00, and pitch-in cookout.

What: Road bike ride, trail hike, and/or cookout.

Bike ride 4:30-6pm

Hike 6-7:30pm

Cookout 7:30-??

Come join us for one, two or all of three parts!

If you plan to attend the pitch-in cookout please post what you are bringing in the comments section below so everyone doesn't bring the same thing.

Pace: Moderate for both the ride and the hike. If there's enough interest we can add second bike group that rides at a faster pace.

When:   Road bike starts at 4:30pm.  Hike starts at 6pm.  Cookout starts around 7:30ish

Where: Bike and hike start at Hogan's Fountain.  The cookout will be under the pavillion across from Hogan's Fountain.

Who: Everyone is welcome

It's that time of year again to get outside and have fun. Margie has been traveling across the country for nine weeks. She is coming home on May 1st. This hike is to welcome her back and hopefully will be a weekly event for a while.

We will meet at Hogan's fountain at 4:30 for a bike ride of maybe 15 miles.

We will hike the trails around Cherokee at 6. This will be be around an hour and a half hike of slow to moderate walking.

We will then have a pitch in cookout at the teepee shelter house for anyone that wants to join. You can join us for any or all the events.

Special Considerations:

Road bike: Out of consideration of others please make sure your bike tires are aired up, the bike shifts into all of the gears and your brakes work.

Hike: There will be about 600' of elevation change.  We will hike at about a 2.5 mph pace but the hills may make that feel about like 4 mph would on flat ground.  There will be shortcuts you can take via the road to get back if you find it too strenuous so there's not much risk in trying it.

Cookout: You might have too much fun.  There's a possibility of gaining a little weight unless you hike it off beforehand ;-)

Sorry to cancel, as it is at Cherokee Park and not fast-paced, but I forgot that I was invited to a Derby party on that day at that time, and have looked forward to that party for 2 months. Thanks Tom

Had a great time as always. Thanks for organizing, Troy. I'll post a bike/hike only for next week. Let me know if you want to host the week after, like we did a couple years ago.

I really wanted to do this and I got a bit overzealous! It turns out I have a work function this Thursday. I hope to go to some future events. Hopefully, I'll meet up with some of you next time.

This sounds like a good time. I'll be joining for the ride, hike, and cook-out. I plan to bring a pasta salad for the cook-out (non-vegetarian as it will have bacon).

Might be in description somewhere but street bike ride or trail bike ride?

    April 22

    • Tony Shulthise

Troy will be leading a street bike ride. Your comment brings up an interesting notion of a good way to get the mtb and hiking groups to fraternize. A road/mtb ride option followed by everyone coming back together for the hike and cookout ;-) Tippi... you are a genius!

I'll be headed for the Canyon, and will look forward to joining you another time.

Yes Tony, That schedule is what I had in mind. You know I am not good with details, just at having fun.

    April 22

    • Tony Shulthise

I can help plan a hike route that won't take too long. The full lap around the Cherokee trail loop takes 1:45 to 2:30 depending on the group so we'll need to shorten it up a little.

will check with knee doc. this sounds like a reasonably slow pace for knee rehab re-entry. any group described as the happy group speaks to my heart.

    April 22

  • Tony Shulthise

Troy... would you guess the schedule will look something like this?...
4:30-6 - bike ride. Leaving and returning from Hogan's Fountain
6-7:30ish - hike the trails, moderate pace (approx 3-4 miles)
7:30-9 - Cookout under the pavillion across from Hogan's Fountain. Everyone post what you are going to bring if you plan to join the cookout.
