Annual Post-Turkey Millenium Trail Trot

  • Let's burn off some of those Thanksgiving Day calories -- mashed potatoes, gravy, pecan pie and whatever else we stuffed ourselves with.

Where: Meet at 9:00 AM sharp at Bernheim Forest Visitor Center.  Everyone will need to sign in at the desk.

    Distance: 13.3 miles.

    Difficulty:  STRENUOUS

What: OK, so we won't really trot, but we'll hike the entire Millenium Trail at a good pace.  We'll need to be out of the park by 5:00 p.m.  This is NOT a hike for first-timers or beginners.  Organizers have the discretion of removing your name from the sign-up list if they feel you're not prepared.  There is a $5 per car entry fee for the park.

What to bring: Food for lunch, snacks for energy, water for hydration, and weather-appropriate apparel.

Pets?: Pets not recommended unless they're in excellent shape.

Return Time:  We’ll return to Louisville by 6:00 p.m.

Group Size: Initially limited to 20 people.  If we get a lot of people on the waitlist, we may form two groups, one hiking clockwise, the other counter-clockwise and meeting for lunch halfway.

Such a beautiful and peaceful day in the woods, a pleasure to see old friends and meet a few new ones. Thanks to all for the company. Somebody took a nice photo of me - thanks, that one's a keeper.

I had a wonderful time yesterday at the hike and it was such a pleasure to meet each of you. I'm sure I will see you on the trail somewhere again. It has been many years since I did any serious hiking but I certainly remembered why I loved it so. I guess I am a repeat beginner now. Have a wonderful weekend.

And you as well,Tim. Your photo shows a guitar over you shoulder. Do you play professionally?

Yea play in a band called One Card Shy (got a Facebook page) and play out occasionally. But not as much as I did in younger years...the amps feel heavier now..haha.

Carol, you are the best host. The dynamic of the group formed nicely with your gentle stirs. Look forward to the next time or see you all on the happy trail..

Perfect weather and perfect hiking friends! I felt so good about burning off yesterday's Thanksgiving dinner that I came home and had an even bigger one today (TG leftovers)!

Carol I did the same along with a cool "beverage" to help with the stiffness. Feeling great this morning. Thanks so much Carol for taking your time and your efforts to put on such a wonderful hike.

Thanks for hosting Carol. Even though a few of us kind of broke away we had a good time!

And now I don't feel so guilty eating these Thanksgiving leftovers. Well my hike was a little broken up but was glad to meet up with Carol and Steve and then with the group that I ended up hiking out with. Good day!

Carol, question, is the visitor center we are meeting at the one with the cafe inside. Also just finished a 16.2 mile hike at Kennesaw Mtn. GA in 5 hrs so I will not slow this group down. Looking fwd to this hike so I can eat extra Thanksgiving day

I doubt you will slow anyone down. I did a hike on the Elm Lick trail today, 5 miles and the trails are covered with leaves and are very slippery. I would wear water proof with good traction boots

Could I get detailed directions to the visitor center? I have never been to Bernheim. Thanks

What is the estimated duration of this hike? What is the estimated pace? Are we really concerned with finishing by 5pm?

Carol, Mark has been my plus one lately on several hikes with Jeremy fields. We have done 10 miles in the Horine and the 13+ siltstone very recently and we did the siltstone in four hours. He's very fit.
