                                 before you sign up!!

A strenuous 4.5 mile Fitness hike for those who feel the need for speed on the Siltstone and Purple Heart trails at Jefferson Memorial Forest.

There are lots of very steep hills

, so it's not easy.

Difficulty level: Strenuous due to steep hills

Distance and Pace: 4.5 miles, a fast pace workout

Regrouping: We will regroup twice during the hike

What to Bring: Comfortable shoes.

Special considerations: Very small chance of poisonous snakes, poison ivy and ticks.

Route: - From the Welcome Center on the Siltstone Trail to the Purple Heart Trail, counter clockwise around the Purple Heart, then back the way we came.

MapQuest Link to Welcome Center http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?city=f...

Directions to Welcome Center: 1. From I-65 take I-265 West (Gene Snyder Freeway). 2. Take the New Cut Road exit and turn left (south). 3. Travel approximately 1.2 miles. At the yellow flashing light, turn right onto Mitchelll Hill Road. 4. Travel 1.5 miles. Turn left into the Welcome Center parking lot (11311 Mitchell Hill Road). What were you so worried about? I'm sure you'd float, not melt. 8*)

Weather is preventing me from hiking tonight. Bummer. I'll try again next time this week.

I want to thank you for hiking in the rain with us. Actually it was not bad because the cooler air was kind of refreshing. Welcome to our new hiker. I wish you a great week ahead and see you on the next hike.

    Good Morning All:

Looking at the weather today Accuweather is predicting no rain or storms between 5:00pm and 10:00pm. So it looks like we will get this hike in on time.

The pick of the week seems to Wednesday so I hope you can attend the Scott's Gap hike as well.

    See you this afternoon.

While we would like to get this hike done in 90 minutes it seems to be nearly impossible with these high temperatures. So if you are an intermediate hiker you are welcome to come along. It is not a beginners hike but it also not a trail running hike.
