I feel better today, but yesterday I was whooped. Even though the ice cream brought temporary relief.

That's it, Tim! I have to keep applying the ice-cream treatment. I knew there was a reason I thought you were cool!

I didn't think I RSVPd for this hike. But for some reason, I'm getting an email for every comment on this hike.

Great hike! I have to agree about the leaves and being able to see what you're stepping on made a difference. Thanks for hosting Chuck!

With all the talk of chiggers, heat, big hills and this being potentially unpleasant hike I'm in.

Yes Carol I do. However a friend sounded like they wanted to do this hike, The talk of , heat, hills, chiggers and such kind of discouraged them. Want to go and encourage them on this hike. Cant be any rougher than my some of my hikes last week.

Tim not much of a trooper. I figure this will be my last hike till say October. Got to get out in the nasty once or twice to remind me why I don't do this very often. I am very fragile you see. :)

You guys be careful! If it were at 5am I would be there but no way in that heat :)

The only time in my life I've felt that I really wasn't going to make it on a hike was the Millennium Trail in 96-degree heat. I had recently finished a week-long backpack in Wyoming, so I was definitely in shape. I decided then that I would NEVER do that trail when it was over 70 degrees. Look for my post-turkey day hike in November. ;-) Winter just can't come soon enough.

Downhill love the speed. This will only be my second year of skiing.

97 degrees isn't so bad. A few years ago I was hiking in southern Bavaria and Austria and the temperature each day was in the upper 90's. I was fine. I just walked a bit slower.

Anyone know if there is going to be a heat advisory issued tomorrow? If so the trail is not open.

    July 25, 2014

    • Jerry Beckum J.

      Change it to Siltstone?

      July 25, 2014

    • Brenda E.

I called Bernheim because I was curious what constitutes "heat advisory". If WHAS weather calls an advisory, they close. They make the call at 8:30 am at Bernheim.

      July 25, 2014

  • Carol H

Chuck, be sure to check with Bernheim Saturday a.m. They close the Millennium Trail if it's too hot.

    July 24, 2014

  • Brenda E.

This just doesn't sound pleasant. I'm waiting to do this one in the fall.

    July 23, 2014

  • Chris

Forgot the chiggers. We will skip this one. Maybe in the fall.

    July 21, 2014

I did this trail last November and vowed I would never do it again. I guess enough time has passed and I am ready to try it again. Its long tough trail!

nope Chuck -- now you have to wear conversation pants

      July 21, 2014

    • Tim P.

Maybe some plaid pants...that would start a conversation....haha

Recommend bringing an adhesive lint remover brush in car if wearing shorts to remove chiggers from ankles. Massive bites last year.

    July 21, 2014

Last did this in August (adding on the Elm Lick Trail at the halfway point for nearly 19 miles). Caching water would have been a good thing for that distance as we ran out of water (3L each) well before reaching a stream (did have a filter)...

I forgot I have to attend a baby shower that day, but from what you guys are saying, kinda glad to bail!
    Happy trails yall!

    July 18, 2014

    • Tim P.

      Don't be scared Joanna..haha

      July 20, 2014

    • Joanna

Haha, I'm actually gonna ask my friend if a gift card would be okay if I missed the shower. So I might still be able to go, but yeah, I'm a lil intimidated.... heheh
