This Meetup group is a joint venture between the Louisville Old Time Squares Association and the Louisville Country Dancers, two traditional folk dance organizations in the river city.
The Louisville Old Time Squares Association (LOTSA) gets together at least monthly for good old fashioned good times. Real live people playing traditional Appalachian fiddle tunes, and real people dancing with neighbors, strangers, and friends. There will always be someone there to facilitate integration of new folks into the dancing. Each shindig will begin with a beginners lesson. The square dance caller will teach every simple dance in a walkthrough before it is done to the music. Anyone is welcome to dance with anyone as their temporary partner. Anyone is also welcome to not dance and hang around and chat. We often have these at bars, so it is a fine place to grab a drink with a friend or meet a new one. Ideal members are ages 2-200. The activity is lightly active, but you can take it at your own pace. You do not have to come with anyone to have good time. You will be holding hands with strangers in no time.
The Louisville Country Dancers was founded in September, 1974 by Marie Cassady and an intrepid and daring group of dancers. Since then it has lived in several locations before settling at the Highlands Community Campus, at the corner of Barret Avenue and Breckinridge Street.
We dance every Monday night from 8:00-10:30 with music by the Monday Night all-Stars, our wonderful volunteer jam band. We offer Beginner Lessons at 7:30. We also dance on the third Saturday of every month. These Saturday dances go from 8:00-11:00 with Beginner Lessons at 7:30, and we always have a special band. Enjoy live music and a friendly inclusive dance community that welcomes new dancers.
I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
