Sunday Morning Topical Meeting

  • Jan 19, 2014 · 10:30 AM

What to expect: This monthly meeting typically begins with an introduction all around for the benefit of any first-time attendees, and discussion of any announcements, upcoming events, etc. We then move on to a topic of interest to atheists (usually) chosen beforehand. Sometimes participants bring print-outs of articles, research, or books to share on the topic, and sometimes people just come with a story or opinion to share.

We loosely moderate the topical discussion to give everyone a chance to participate. Then the conversation often flows onto other related subjects, sometimes in smaller conversation groups around the table.

If you have any ideas for meeting topics, please let any of the co-organizers know. We can also add announcements or "mini-topics" on the agenda if there's anything you'd like to share with the group.

Atheism and the AFC Championship game, what a beautiful Sunday

Great people with great conversations on varied topics. Quite possibly the smartest atheists in the room.

Proposed topic: Do you ever find yourself seeking a sense of community? I often feel like Atheism relegates me to a life as a "lone wolf". Sure, there are online forums and occasional meetups or conventions. But I think I would enjoy more regular opportunities for socialization and discussion -- kind of like the church I was raised in, but without the mythology. Have you heard of Sunday Assembly? Is there any interest in starting a group north of Boston?

I'm very interested in this, Randall. I intend to attend the Sunday Assembly in Boston/Cambridge, then I'd love to co-start one nearer the NH border.

Hi Randall, I also attended the Sunday Assembly back in November at Harvard with Phil McGee and Robert Herrick. It was fun and interesting and I thought it was a good start. I would love to see a SA north of Boston.
