Colorado Libertarians Message Board › Ernest Hancock vs. Wayne Allyn Root at the Manhattan LP on May 10, 2010
Woodland Park, CO
Here's a note I sent my old compatriots back in Manhattan . My article in the http://SerfCity.US... tabloid they mention is on my website at Silver Tongued Criminals :
Great debate ! What I miss being out here where the most significant recent event was the unwitnessed massacre of our last 5 ducks by a niece's visiting husky .
My serious problem with Root came out in his one comment about "attacking Israel" . What a complete libertarian should be forthright about is not supporting the war machine of avowedly jingoist segregationist theocracies with taken taxed money in total disregard for the wisdom of the first clause of our First Amendment .
I have always felt the LP's value is to remain a pure brand . In places like NY(C) where republicans tend to be RINOs and have no power anyway , it makes sense to put one's energy into the advancing the LP brand .
It's rather different out here in southern Colorado which is one of the most conservative/libertarian regions of the country and where our representative Doug Lamborn knows me and my opinions personally , and it's relatively simple to meet our Senators face to face in small meetings . The same is true even more so for the state and local political offices . Thus there is much more leverage being involved with the Teller County Republicans and the local Tea Party , and the Colorado Springs radically libertarian continuation of the Ron Paul meetup , now yclept https://greendragonta... .
Given these realities , The LP has been unable to sustain what amounts to just another freedom oriented group down here . They are much more active and useful up in the more statist areas of Denver and Boulder .
Certainly , as Hancock argues , the libertarian movement is having a profound influence on the political structure of the country , but that effect has manifested itself in a flourishing of correlated competing associations whose major operant effect is to move the Republican Party back towards its Taft and Goldwater ideals .
BTW , I also voted all my ballots except the first for Mary , and believe she would have done more to get the Libertarian message out than Barr who many dismissed out of hand as being a carpet bagging crypto-statist .

That evening, at a meeting of the Manhattan Libertarian Party, Ernie debated Wayne Allyn Root for the chairmanship of the Libertarian National Committee. For those who missed it, or those who want to relive it, Freedom's Phoenix has the complete video.
