Led by Huntley Gill and the fireboat crew, guests aboard the John J. Harvey will learn about a fireboat that pumped water for 80 hours at the World Trade Center on September 11th. This tour is perfect for children and families. Get ready to get a bit wet during the water display on board!

Built in 1931, the John J. Harvey, at 130 ft and 268 net tons, is among the most powerful fireboats ever in service. She boasts five 600 HP diesel engines and has capacity to pump 18,000 gallons of water a minute. Her pumps are powerful -- enough so that when she and the George Washington Bridge were both brand new, she shot water over the bridge's roadway. She was retired by the New York City Fire Department in 1994 and bought at auction by her current owners in 1999. She was placed on The National Register of Historic Places in June 2000.

Plan to arrive at Pier 25 (Hudson River Park, N Moore Street at West Street) at least 45 minutes before your tour.  You will pick up tickets at the ticketing table. Present your ID or a print out of your reservation confirmation to receive your tickets. Please arrive at the ticketing table at least 30 minutes before the tour to pick up your tickets. Tickets not claimed 15 minutes before the tour may be given to those in the standby line.

Water Boat was fabulous. Too bad more people could not get tickets.

I thought I would have an extra ticket but I do not as Francis did not purchase a ticket and I bought one for him as I assumed he would not have one. I am sorry I did not buy more tickets. perhaps I will arrange lunch at a particular restaurant in Chinatown after the boat ride and everyone who wants can join us for lunch.
