South Bay Machine Knitting Meetup Group, November

Note the later-than-usual start time, 12:30.

November discussion theme: Review of models and brands, and how to choose a machine. What gauge? Do I want manual, punchcard or electronic? Brother, Studio/Silver Reed or some other? We'll demo some punchcard and electronic patterning.

Bring your machine and knit. Beginners are always welcome, there'll be a machine available for newcomers to try out, and advice on what to buy. If you have a knitting machine that you don't know how to use, bring it along and we'll help you get started.

A $3 donation is requested towards the room and Meetup fees. Guests and first-time attendees are free.

Approximate agenda:

12:30 Setup and questions.
Show up whenever you can. The first hour or so is for setup, socializing and beginner help.

1:30 Announcements, followed by Show & Tell.

2:00 Demo. Punchcard and electronic patterning. Review of models and brands, and how to choose a machine.

Afternoon: Freeform. Bring your machine, some yarn and your questions.

Thanks to those who showed up for the November meeting. And apologies to the mystery person who dropped in for a few minutes later in the afternoon, we were all in deep in what we were doing and each thought the other had talked to you. I got back from a trip out to the parking lot and you'd gone. I hope you're reading this, please come again next time and give us another chance, we're normally very friendly and welcoming.

The mystery person was my friend & she said she will come back again when she can watch some knitting.

As usual, we didn't stick very closely to the scheduled topic. Thanks to Norene for her thread-lace demo, and along with other informal demos we tried out a Brother linker. (The gadget for doing an automatic bind-off.) As always, if anyone has followup questions please ask them here, or in next month's comments, or by email.

For me, it was just wonderful. I learned so much. The experienced machine knitters that attended couldn't be more helpful.

Just one more reminder about the start time, 12:30. As always, you don't need to show up exactly on time, but I don't want anyone to arrive early and have to wait, or think it is the wrong day.

Had my baby early - May be a while before I can make it back up.

So where's the website with the instruction books? Having the hardest time finding anything about the Studio sk101

      Try these two sites:
      http://machineknittin...
      https://app.box.com/sh...
For Studio or Silver Reed, look under Knitmaster on the box site. The earliest Studio I see there is the SK105, might be close enough. I might have a SK101 manual myself, I'll have to look through my stuff.

Thank you. I see that countryknitting carries the Tamm 3-Ply that I was discussing with Rose. And it's slightly cheaper than at the site I'd suggested, theknittingcloset.com
