South Bay Machine Knitting Meetup Group January Meetup

Change of topic: Cut N Sew.

We didn't get to the cut and sew section last month, so as there wasn't overwhelming interest in the topic of vintage machines, let's give cut and sew its own meeting.

Most of the time we shape our knitting on the machine as we go. The alternative is to knit yardage, cut out from a sewing pattern, and sew it together on a sewing machine. Or the most common use is somewhere in between, shape most of your sweater as you make it, but cut just one or two sections, such as a neckline or to separate the fronts of a cardigan. Along with cut and sew, there are techniques for neatly covering the raw edge.

Note that I've booked the room from 5:30 this time, to give us some extra chit-chat time. Show up whenever you can.

Agenda:

5:30 Setup, informal beginner demo as needed, questions about any machine.

6:30 Announcements

A $3 donation is requested towards the room and Meetup fees. Guests and first-time attendees are free. As an experiment I've set the $3 in Meetup to see how that works; we'll collect it in cash as usual.

Margaret presented a wonderful demo on cut and sew necklines. It is so kind of her to share her amazing skill and knowledge in knitting machines with us,

Great group of people. Adrienne has both breadth and depth of knowledge of knitting technique and Norene has a passion for machines, both for the sake of machine knitting and results. Hopefully more beginners and potential machine knitters will come to meetings to find out about the hobby - which can be both relaxing and challenging.
