iOS Development Meetup

Join us once again for the monthly iOS Development Pub Night. Pogue Mahone worked well last month so lets meet there again in November.

Don't forget, we will be giving away another copy of Kendo UI as well!

4 stars only because it was a bit difficult to talk to everyone across the long table.

I'm going to try and get a better spot (same venue) next time. Unfortunately, they screwed up our reservation this time.

I met a number of people just starting into doing iphone/ipad apps and I recommended a book on storyboarding by a professor at a university in Colorado. He's been teaching a beginner's course on iphone/ipad programming for a few years now. He's released 2 editions (he's working on the 3rd edition now to take into account iOS 6). At Safari Tech Books Online, toronto public library:

Beginning iOS Storyboarding with Xcode: Easily Design and Develop Your App, from Concept and Vision to Code by Rory Lewis et al

Shows building apps using MapKit and CoreLocation frameworks, retrieving info from a website, Single View, Utility, Page-Based, Master-Detail, using SQLlite, and a maze app that has 18 scenes in it.

The version of Xcode used for the book was 4.3.2 (iOS SDK 5.1). For the most part this matches Xcode 4.5 but there are a few differences that can lead to some head scratching. There are videos, source code packages and a forum available at the author's website: rorylewis.com.

Last time there were some suggestions that we pick a spot that makes it easier to mingle. I have made a reservation for the spot back behind the bar. We will be seated at a series of small round tables. See you tomorrow!

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
