Learn to program iOS applications

Hi Everyone,

So some of us on the iOS side of things have been discussing the idea of starting to teach a free intro to iOS programming course and I wanted to send this out to the group to gauge interest in the idea.

Ideally the program would run once per week with each class being from 2-3 hours in length. It will be comprised of 2 parts: a lecture section and a lab section. The lecture would involve the participants watching one of the iOS programming lectures from Stanford that are available on iTunesU. The lab section would be an opportunity to work on the homework (and other projects) and ask questions in a group environment under the supervision of experienced iOS developers.

The course would require some previous experience with programming in an object oriented language (Java, C#, C++) but if there is sufficient interest then we may also consider offering Stanford’s other courses or some other suitable alternative that is more geared towards beginning programmers. Alternatively you could start learning on your own, just to get up to speed before the courses start. We’d be glad to offer any advice on where to start, what books to read, etc.

At this point things are just in the planning phases but if you would be interested in something like this or if you have any questions or comments then please send me an email. Also, if you are an experienced iOS developer and would like to help out in anyway then i’d be glad to hear from you as well.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Brendan (BM)
