Meet To Discuss and Play Games

Bring your games, bring your ideas, and be ready to try out some cool experimental games.

NOTE: The Essen Haus is closed on Mondays, so you'll enter through Come Back In. We have special permission to use the Essen Haus meeting space even though they are closed. Plenty of food and beer to be had, as the Come Back In menu will be made available to us.

As Lucas mentioned, played his Traders of the Galaxy (with Mike J., Scott, Peter D. and Steven D.) and watched a little when Timm switched in; tremendously finished-looking, and yet well-done Lucas! for obvious willingness to NOT be locked-in. (Sometimes it's hard to have a prototype look too good and still be able to wrap your brain around changes. 'Course, I've never yet had the problem of anything looking too-finished :-)
JT and I played Ramshrike--2159 with pirate-missiles; I may have to scale back on how many they can grab first turn, and I am working hard to kill "Token Phase" entirely.
Watched Z, Andrew H., Matthew & Brad & (G.? R.? sorry to not have paid better attn.) blind-play JT's excellent "The Captain is Dead"; with the changes they noted (esp. descr. of "destroyed" compared to "damaged") it really looks ready for kickstarter-primetime; I dearly love the look of some of the new things... (that will be revealed when the campaign starts, I think? No spoilers here, heh...)

An excellent event. I immediately felt welcomed by Steve K and JT. I was thrilled that I was able to get a total of 6 people testing out Traders of the Galaxy over 2 games. I received valuable feedback for possible changes which were able to be tested right away on the second game. Playing Pete and Steve D's semi-cooperative games was enlightening as I saw other ways of approaching game design. I certainly enjoyed the gathering and look forward to more in the future.

It's all pretty casual. We generally give feedback verbally. You might want to bring something to take notes with, in case one of us says something useful.

Any guidelines/recommendations on what we should bring? Should we provide comment sheets, contact info, or anything else? (Besides games to test and an open mind, of course.)

Sorry guys, going to have to ditch this month. DL, good luck on the final days of the Copper Country Kickstarter! I saw you stuck in a picture of one of our Monday meetups :)

Scott and I have tentatively scheduled a demo at Pegasus on Monday night, so we may not be able to make it.

Oh, then you're totally in the right place; recently I've been getting all of that at almost every meeting, for which I am extremely grateful! (When my game gets printed this summer, it will only be a result of this continual abrasion. I've referred to it as "getting me out of my own head" but I'm pretty sure it's the same thing every designer / author / creator goes through to get something worth showing in public.)

This'll be my first gathering with other game designers. So far, I'm feeling pretty good about my games, but I am looking forward to getting my feelings hurt, my hopes dashed, and my ideas improved. :)
