Quest for the Queer in the Bibliothéque

The Public Library in Downtown is one of L.A.'s most exquisite spots. This majestic landmark has seven stories chock-full with books, sienna marble friezes cut into the exterior, painted fresco murals on the ceilings, marble and cast-bronze sculptures and chandeliers everywhere, a series of fountains . . . oh, and did we mention hidden queerness? What better way for you to explore this historic location than to scavenge the gender-bendin' lovin' stuffed in the stacks? We've got a grand prize sponsored in part by Lela Lee of Angry Little Girls for the winning team, but don't worry; technically everyone wins when we take a jaunt afterward to Casey's Irish Bar & Grill next door to toast our booties . . . by which we mean treasures, of course! If you haven't figured it out already, this is a scavenger hunt! (Here come the Rules, blah blah.) You will be photocopying (we'll provide your quarters), taking pictures, scribbling down notes, and following clues (among other sundry trials); we'll assign each task a point value. Upon receiving your task list your team will have a short period of time to strategize before taking off into the structure; you'll also have a set period of time to return to base. We will deduct points for tardiness. The team with the most points wins! (Duh.) And then, to the bar! And from the bar, to the subway! (The Pershing Square Station on the MTA Red Line is only three blocks away.) If you're not a fan of books, come for the art. If you're neither a fan of books nor art, come for the prizes! If you're neither a fan of books nor art nor prizes, come for the bar! If you're not a fan of any of those things . . . well $#*@ we don't know how to help you.
